Michael Dean Cooper.

Michael Dean Cooper died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 42.

Mr. Cooper was a member of New Vision Church on Wisconsin Avenue. He worked in shipping at Tyson Foods.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Beatrice Cooper; and his maternal grandfather, Robert M. Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Cooper; one son, Steven Cooper of Vicksburg; one sister, Tracie Lynn Cooper of Vicksburg; his parents, William and Elsie Laverne Cooper of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Rick McAlister officiating.

Visitation will be from 3 until 5 today at Robbins Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Johnson.

PORT GIBSON – Elizabeth Johnson died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 55.

A teacher, Mrs. Johnson was employed at A.W. Watson Elementary School for 21 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Church of God and Christ.

She is survived by two brothers, Johnny Johnson of Port Gibson and George Johnson Jr. of Jackson; three sisters, Rosie McGraw of Houston, Dorothy Keenan of Denver, Colo., and Joyce Howell of Canton, Ohio; aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Mary Watson of Vicksburg and Bertha King of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Church of God and Christ in Port Gibson with the Rev. Ernest Wilcher officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Christian Church Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Roosevelt Simmons.

PORT GIBSON – Roosevelt Simmons died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 62.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Simmons and Frank Hyder; a brother, Bernard Hyder; and a sister, Lillian Hyder.

He is survived by 10 brothers, Eddie Lee Hyder, Isaih Hyder, Alfred Simmons, Melvin Hyder, Henry Hyder, Johnnie Watson, T.J. Payne, Larry Payne and Johnell Payne, all of Port Gibson, and Louis Simmons of Memphis; eight sisters, Mae Lee Simmons, Mildred Simmons, Willie B. Farmer, Katie Branch, Margie Payne, Bobbie Gusta, Bertha Dorsey and Geraldine Payne, all of Port Gibson; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springhill M.B. Church with the Rev. Eddie Walls officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.

Johnny Waiter.

ROLLING FORK – Johnny Waiter died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77.

Mr. Waiter is survived by a daughter, May Ruth Ducking of Rolling Fork; two brothers, Robert Waiter of Mayersville and Sidney Waiter Jr. of Memphis; and a sister, Margaret Waiter of Tutwiler.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Jeff Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Mayersville.

Willie Mae Washington.

ROLLING FORK – Willie Mae Washington died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in Jackson. She was 79.

Mrs. Washington served as a church mother at Mount Herald M.B. Church.

She is survived by one son, Horace Gene Washington of Rolling Fork; three daughters, Symanthia Gulley, Willie Ett Anderson and Janie Thomas, all of Detroit; two brothers, Eddie Brooks of Uniontown, Ala., and Junior Riley of Jackson; four sisters, Maggie Gipson of Safford, Ala., Virginia Jones and Georgia Askew, both of Uniontown, and Eloise Klooten of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren, including Fatima Thomas, whom she reared; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Alberta Washington of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Frank Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Ollie Cemetery in Egremont under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.
