The citywide boil water notice has been lifted.
At just before noon, the City of Vicksburg received clearance from the state Department of Health, said Pat McGuffie, head of the city’s Water Treatment Plant.
All service in the city is normal, he said.
The notice, in place for nearly a week after a main water line break on Sept. 13.
“We’re up and doing fine,” he said.
The city sent the Department of Health 60 samples Tuesday and 60 more Wednesday from various points in the system, McGuffie said. Tests were conducted to determine if there was any contamination from bacteria that may have entered the system when the flow stopped.
The city’s system lost pressure when the 36-inch main water line from the water treatment plant on E.W. Haining Road ruptured due to ground movement, leaving the entire city and parts of the county dry within hours.
The line was repaired and service was restored by the following evening.
The break may have cost the city more than $50,000 from lost meter sales and water wasted by draining due to the break and repressurizing the system, Strategic Planner Paul Rogers said last week.
