NEWELLTON – Services for Sally McDaniel Adams were at 10 this morning at First Baptist Church of Newellton with the Rev. Cecil Perry officiating. Burial followed at Legion Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Mrs. Adams died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at her home in Newellton. She was 64.

Mrs. Adams was a 1959 graduate of Newellton High School and 1961 graduate of Louisiana Business College. She was employed with Newellton Elevator, Delta Gin and Franklin Plantation as a bookkeeper for more than 40 years. She was a member of the choir and MAE’s Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Newellton.

She is survived by her husband, Emmett L. Adams Jr.; a son, Lawrence Daniel Adams of Newellton; two daughters, Sonya Elisha Adams Collins of Start, La., and Jacquelin Hope Adams Hankins of Newellton; a brother, Amos McDaniel; six sisters, Clarice Williams, Elsie Ruth Kelly, Shirley Floyd, Joyce Felter, Dixie Williams and Carrole Cannon; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Billy Wayne Adams, Eric Adams, Cedric Williams, Douglas Felter, Scotty Floyd and Wayne McDaniel.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Hester Lee Brown.

Services for Hester Lee Brown will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest M.B. Church with the Rev. Thomas Benard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Brown died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at River Region West Campus. She was 77.

Mrs. Brown was a nurse’s assistant at Vicksburg Convalescent Home and Trace Haven for a number of years. She was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearlie and Henderson Williams Jr.; her husband, Henry Brown Sr.; two sons, John Walter Brown and Charlie Brown; two daughters, Pearlie Jones and Andrea Brown; a sister, Hazel Mitchell; and four brothers, Julius Williams, Henderson Williams III, Cornelius Williams and Percy B. Williams.

She is survived by four sons, Lee Dudley Brown and Floyd Ray Brown, both of Vicksburg, Henry Brown Jr. of Chicago and Michael Brown of Jackson; four daughters, Elnora Coats, Linda Kay Brown and Janice Brown, all of Vicksburg, and Sharolyn Brown Young of Jackson; two brothers, Herman Williams of Gary, Ind., and Joseph Williams of St. Paul, Minn.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Jeanetta G. Farmer.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jeanetta G. Farmer died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at her home in Washington, D.C. She was 96.

Mrs. Farmer was a former resident of Vicksburg and a retired nurse’s assistant. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Brown and Lillie Williams Brown; two brothers, Robert L. Brown and Burton Brown; and four sisters, Elizabeth Ford Brown, Mary B. Smith, Julia Ryan and twin Arnetta McWane Brown.

James Chaffin Martin.

TALLULAH – Services for James Chaffin &#8220Boss” Martin will be at 3 today at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah, La. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Martin died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at his home in Tallulah. He was 77.

Mr. Martin was born in Ida, La. He retired from Louisiana State Police after 21 years as an officer. He worked for the concrete and construction business for many years. He served as pastmaster for Tallulah Lodge No. 308 and a 32nd-degree Shriner.

He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Faye Bartholomew and Teresa Gunter, both of Tallulah, and Beverly Ann Whitehead of Shreveport; three sons, Michael Martin of Austin, Texas, Regan Martin and Ray Martin, both of Monroe; two sisters, Elsie Harris and Virginia Holloway, both of Dallas; a brother, John Earl Martin of Tallulah; and 10 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cool Springs M.B. Church with the Rev. Byron Maxwell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. McClure died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was 81.

Mr. McClure was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jackson Dove McClure Sr.; his mother, Martha Young; a sister, Ruby Neal; and two brothers, Woodrow McClure and Jackson Dove McClure Jr.

Survivors include two sisters, Martha Evans and Shirlena McClure, both of Detroit; nieces, nephews, cousins and caregivers, James and Mangle Neal of Pattison.

Mary Maxcine Hudson.

Mary Maxcine Hudson died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. She was 62.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert Martin and Idlean Martin; her father, Will Collins; her husband, Robert Hudson; a brother, Clifton Martin; and a son, Tommy Hudson.

She is survived by her mother, Unzell Wilkerson of Vicksburg; two sons, Sammy Wilkerson and Gregory Hudson, both of Vicksburg; three daughters, Bobbie Wilkerson Thomas, Sarah Wilkerson and Mary Ann Hudson, all of Vicksburg; six brothers, Selvin Wilkerson of Compton, Calif., R.D. Collins of Edwards, Guy Wilkerson of Jackson, Don Wilkerson of Indianapolis, Ind., Michael Wilkerson of Detroit and Auston Wilkerson of Vicksburg; four sisters, Evelyn Williams of Vicksburg, Ceceil Louise Reese of Detroit, Linda Wilkerson and Debra Wilkerson, both of Abingdon, Md.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Charles James Smith.

CHICAGO – Charles James Smith died Monday, Sept. 25. He was 58.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Smith was a 1965 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School and a 1969 graduate of Tougaloo College, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He also received a master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago.

He was employed as a vice president of JPMorgan Chase in Chicago.

He was a deacon and trustee of Bryn-Mawr Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Smith and Missouri Wilson, and a brother, Fred James Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Clark Smith of Chicago; two sons, Kevin C. Smith of Cincinnati and Kenneth J. Smith of Chicago; one brother, Melvin Charles Smith of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Betty Smith Brown and Alfreda Smith Thomas, both of Vicksburg; and a number of other relatives, including David Wilson of Albuquerque, N.M., and the Giles, Adams, Hudson, Murray and Jones families of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bryn-Mawr Community Church, 7000 S. Jeffery Blvd., Chicago, IL 60649, with the Rev. Karl Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of the service at the church.

Mildred Lea Thompson.

Mildred Lea Thompson died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at her home at the age of 90.

Mrs. Thompson was born to Harry and Florestine Lea of Baton Rouge. She retired from the U.S. Government Waterways Experiment Station as a purchasing agent.

Prior to working at WES, she was the business manager at Kuhn Memorial Hospital under administrator Dr. Walter E. Johnston Sr.

Millie will be remembered for her &#8220gift of gab.” She delighted in relaying stories of her job experiences and her ancestry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, O.W. &#8220Bill” Thompson; a sister, Florette Lea; and three brothers, Harry, Garcia and Ferguson Lea.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy, and her husband, W.L. &#8220Bill” Libbey; two grandsons, Chris Libbey and fiance, Jessica King, and Seth Libbey, all of Vicksburg. She also leaves a sister, Nettie L. Triche of Baton Rouge; a brother-in-law, Jones McGraw and wife, Ruth, of Vicksburg; a cousin, Lillian Sleet of Alexandria, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves special friends, Jane Lindsey, Johnny and Ruth Kolb, Bill Abney and Lonnie Wilson, all of Vicksburg, and Skeet P’Pool of Baton Rouge.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Libbey and Seth Libbey; and nephews, Stanley Triche, Lennie Dickerson Sr. and Lennie Dickerson Jr., all of Baton Rouge; and Wayne Ledford of Decatur, Miss.
