Rita Palmer Hazzlerigg.
Rita Palmer Hazzlerigg died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vickburg. She was 80.
Mrs. Hazzlerigg was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy and retired from Sears after 37 years of employment. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
Mrs. Hazzlerigg was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Hazzlerigg Sr.; her son, Walter C. Hazzlerigg Jr.; her parents, Matt Palmer Sr. and Amy Palmer; her brother, Matt B. Palmer Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Gill.
Mrs. Hazzlerigg is survived by her son, Donald M. Hazzlerigg, and his wife, Bonnie, of Vicksburg; her daughter, Caroline Cummins of Vicksburg; her grandchildren, David Hazzlerigg of Ridgeland, Timothy Hazzlerigg of Port Gibson, Jeanine Hearn and Suzanne George of Vicksburg, Mark Russell of Saltillo and Michelle Hopson of Hattiesburg; her sister-in-law, Ailene Palmer; and niece, Patricia Palmer of Denton, Texas; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, followed by wake services at 7 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Hazzlerigg, Leroy George, Dr. Daniel Edney, Timothy Hazzlerigg, Anthony Hearn, Mike Baroudy, Aubrey Cummins and Mark Russell.

Irene H. Laird.
TALLULAH – Services for Irene H. Laird will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight.
Mrs. Laird died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.
She was born in Swartz, La., and had lived in Tallulah for 54 years. She was a store cashier and a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Laird.
She is survived by two sons, Billy Wayne Laird of Parkdale, Ark., and Dewey Daniel Laird of Tallulah; a daughter, Ellen Janice Herman of Tallulah; two sisters, Dorothy Avery of Haughton, La., and Lula Faye Massey of Monroe; a brother, Jack Hartley of Stuttgart, Ark.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Laird, Jason Laird, Troy Burgess, Patrick Barrett, David Herman and Charles L. Nolan Sr.
Polly James Carter Sly.
GREENVILLE – Polly James Carter Sly died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at her home in Greenville. She was 85.
A former Cary resident, Mrs. Sly was born in Darlove and attended Washington County Schools.
She is survived by three sons, Charlie J. Sly of Dayton, Ohio, James O. Sly of Greenville and Herbert Sly of Cary; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Howard of Chicago; a stepsister, Virginia Brown of Greenville; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cary with the Rev. B.T. Benson officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
