Leola Martin Jones died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006. She was 60.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Second Union M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roberta Steed Horton and Ruthel Martin Sr.; her husband, Willie Lee Jones; a son, Steven Lawrence Martin; and two brothers, Ernest Horton and Melvin Horton.

She is survived by two sons, Willie Jones of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Arthur Jones of Vicksburg; one brother, Ruthel Martin Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Annie Bell James Moore of Mount Vernon, Hazel Stewart of Biloxi and Roberta Kidde of Auburn, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Dan J. Haggans of Vicksburg and members of the Flowers, Martin and Thomas families of Vicksburg and Utica.

Melody Renea Worthy Nordstrom.

Melody Renea Worthy Nordstrom died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 50.

Mrs. Nordstrom was the daughter of the late Jessie George and Ellen Ruth Carson Worthy. She was a member of Wilderness Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew Nordstrom of Vicksburg; two sons, Clint Olin Truesdell and Michael Glen Truesdell, both of Vicksburg; a stepson, Clifton Nordstrom of Columbia, La.; a brother, Michael Craig Worthy of Pensacola, Fla.; a stepbrother, David Roberts of Vicksburg; a sister, Teresa Gregg of Vicksburg; three stepsisters, Sandy Luvell of Vicksburg, Donna Roberts and Judy Roberts, both of Monroe; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry White of Bowmar Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Worthy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Leon Pierce Sr.

Leon Pierce Sr. died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 92.

A retired barber, Mr. Pierce was a deacon at Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church. He was founder, leader and a 50-year member of the United Gospel Singers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nellie Pierce; a brother, Robert Pierce Sr.; a sister, Carrie P. Walker; a son, Leon Pierce Jr.; and a granddaughter, Ernestine Martin.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marie H. Pierce; three sons, Billy Pierce of Oakland, Calif., Joseph G. Pierce of Vicksburg and Andrew Horton of Baton Rouge; eight daughters, Theresa P. Lynn, Deloris P. Green, Martha Pierce Robinson, Peggy Pierce and Vivian Pierce, all of Vicksburg, Carrie P. Anderson and Gertie P. Lea, both of Oakland, and Debra Pierce-Robinson of Ridgeland; one sister, Elizabeth P. Taylor of Oakland; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including members of the Parker, Lewis and London families.

Albert Clifton Solomon Jr.

Albert Clifton &#8220Sol” Solomon Jr. died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.

Mr. Solomon was born in Lucedale and had lived in Vicksburg for 54 years. An Army veteran, he worked as a warehouse supervisor at U.S. Rubber Reclaiming. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vicksburg.

He is survived by two sons, Dr. Don C. Solomon of Virginia Beach, Va., and Phil Solomon of Vicksburg; a daughter, Marti Solomon of Alabaster, Ala.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Thursday until the hour of service.

James M. Willhite Jr.

TALLULAH – Services for James M. &#8220Jimmie” Willhite Jr. were this morning at 10 at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Cletus Moak officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah after Masonic ceremonies.

Mr. Willhite died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center. He was 79.

Born in Ouachita Parish, Mr. Willhite had lived in Madison Parish most of his life. He served in the Army Air Force as an airplane armor mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was past master of Tallulah Lodge No. 308 and Pioneer Lodge; a former 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; and a Shriner. He served as district grand lecturer of the Grand Lodge, State of Louisiana, for a number of years.

Mr. Willhite was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Etta Willhite; three brothers, Oliver Willhite, Derwood Willhite and George Willhite; two sisters, Juanita White and Carrie DeJura; and a son, Harvey Dale Willhite.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Jewel Willhite; two sons, James Michael Willhite of Swartz, La., and Henry Arthur of MerRouge, La.; four brothers, Orien D. Willhite of Zwolle, La., John A. Willhite of Tallulah, Charles Willhite of Columbia, La., and Glen Willhite of Carthage; two sisters, Emma Lou Dowda of Ruston, La., and Jeanette Ward of Las Vegas.

Pallbearers were Kenny Smith, David Mahoney, Jim Wood, Buddy Caldwell, Don Butler, Donnie Ellerman, Clint Johnson, Roy McDuffie, Leonard Miller and Jerry Strong.
