James H. Cage Jr.

LEARNED – James H. Cage Jr. died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at his home in Learned. He was 82.

Born in Fitler, Miss., Mr. Cage had been a resident of Learned for the past 47 years. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and U.S. Army World War II Veteran.

He is survived by a son, James Staggs of Clifton Forge, Va.; five daughters, Sandy Cage of Port Gibson, Carolyn LaComb, Alene Sanford and Alice Russell, all of Learned, and Florence Bobby Loyd of St. Francisville, La.; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be today under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Services for Carol E. &#8220Boy” Flowers were at 10 this morning at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial followed at Redbone Cemetery.

Mr. Flowers died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 92.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Emanuel and Fannie Rollison Flowers. He retired from the Warren County Highway Department after 34 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Flowers; his parents; and a sister, Gladys Flowers.

He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn F. Irons of Vicksburg; one sister, Madie Smith of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Donna Carpenter and Tiger Irons, both of Vicksburg, and Renee Hawkins and Caroline Thomas, both of Florence; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Darrell Thomas, Jeff Hawkins, Tommy Carpenter, Chris Irons, Scotty Rollison and Donnie Goodwin.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Irons, Tiger Irons, Ronnie Irons, Eric Carpenter, Austin Irons, Shelby Irons, Frank Wright and Alfred Rollison.

Phyllis June Patterson Herren.

ANGUILLA – Phyllis June Patterson Herren, 77, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at her home in Anguilla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla. Burial will follow. Glenwood Funeral Home of Rolling Fork is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Herren was a lifelong resident of Anguilla. She retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission in 1991. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club, and she was named in the Mississippi Forestry Association’s Tree Talk Magazine. She was a member of Anguilla First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.S. Herren; and her brother, James Bo Patterson.

She is survived by her son, Stan Herren of Anguilla; her daughter, Carol H. Fowler of Arab, Ala.; her brother, W.E. &#8220Britch” Patterson of Delta City; her sisters, Betty Perkins and Doris McIntyre, both of Anguilla; and her granddaughter, Teri Graben of Arab.

Pallbearers will be Bill Patterson, Pat Patterson, William Patterson, Ty Watkins and Danny Holly.

Leola Martin Jones.

Services for Leola Martin Jones will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Union M.B. Church with the Rev. Johnnie Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Jones died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006. She was 60.

She was a member of Second Union M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roberta Steed Horton and Ruthel Martin Sr.; her husband, Willie Lee Jones; a son, Steven Lawrence Martin; and two brothers, Ernest Horton and Melvin Horton.

She is survived by two sons, Willie Jones of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Arthur Jones of Vicksburg; one brother, Ruthel Martin Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Annie Bell James Moore of Mount Vernon, Hazel Stewart of Biloxi and Roberta Kidde of Auburn, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Dan J. Haggans of Vicksburg and members of the Flowers, Martin and Thomas families of Vicksburg and Utica.

Jim L. Lambert.

Jim L. Lambert died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was 76.

Born in Lawrence County, Mrs. Lambert was a resident of Vicksburg for 39 years. She was a member of Solid Rock Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lambert; a sister, Vera Mae Brister; and a brother, R.V. Brister.

She is survived by three sons, Dwight Lambert and Delbert Lambert, both of Brandon, and Mike Lambert of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sonya Lambert of Clinton and Beth Banks of Ridgeland; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Powell Grove Pentecostal Church in Jayess with the Rev. G.R. Travis officiating. Burial will follow at Powell Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.

Kevin Otis.

Services for Kevin Otis will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. A.L. Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Otis died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at his home. He was 44.

As an assistant manager, Mr. Otis was employed with Volunteers of America at Shadow Cliff Apartments in Vicksburg. Having served 10 years in the U.S. Army, he was a former employee of the Warren County Courthouse, Warren County Justice Court and Ameristar Casino. He was a member of King David No. 1 M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie Lee Fisher Otis; his biological mother, Ethel Sanders; and two brothers, George Wesley Otis and Kenneth Sanders.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie L. Otis of Jackson; a daughter, DeKayla Shelby of Vicksburg; his father, Richard Otis of Vicksburg; a stepmother, Bessie Otis of Vicksburg; a brother, Michael Callwood of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Christopher Johnson, Shun Johnson and Mabel Peterson, all of Vicksburg.

Billie Rose Whittington.

WEIR – Billie Rose Whittington died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus. She was 67.

Born in Louisiana, Mrs. Whittington was a factory worker and homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Perry.

She is survived by two sons, Billy James Whittington of Weir and Charles Whittington of Raleigh, N.C.; three daughters, Clora Brown of Vicksburg, Mary Crocker of Ackerman and Bonnie Eldridge of Saltillo; a brother, Frank Brown; and 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Coleman Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilson D. Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Baptist Cemetery near Ackerman. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
