John H. Barber Sr.
BATON ROUGE – Services for John H. Barber Sr. were Monday at St. George Catholic Church. The Revs. Mike Schatzle, Charles Landry and Carl Evans officiated. Burial followed at St. George’s Mausoleum under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.
Mr. Barber died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Barber was a resident of Baton Rouge. He retired from Barber Brothers Contracting Company LLC after more than 40 years of service. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic High School men’s club and a parishioner of St. George Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Barber Sr. and Jane Rafferty Barber O’Neill.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Evans Barber; six sons, John H. Barber Jr., Dr. Gerald M. Barber, Charles Evans Barber, Michael L. Barber, Ronald J. Barber and George E. Barber; two daughters, Evelyn Barber Lenox and Beth Barber Antie; a brother, Charles L. Barber Jr.; a sister, Mary Jane Lauderdale of Vicksburg; and 22 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were sons and sons-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers were Donald Kershaw, Windom Brignac, C.R. Mire, Jay Garon, A.J. Politz Jr. and George Southwick.
Memorials may be made to St. George Catholic School, Catholic High School or St. Joseph’s Academy to help defray tuition for needy children.
Margaret Shelby Werlein McLean.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Margaret Shelby Werlein McLean was born Feb. 13, 1922, and passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at a Huntsville, Ala., hospital. A graduate of Sophie Newcomb in 1943, she received her master’s degree in Spanish Literature from Louisiana State University and studied further toward her Ph.D., later teaching at All Saints’ in Vicksburg.
Mrs. McLean was a resident of Weatherly Springs Assisted Living Community. A faithful church member all of her life, she was formerly a member of First Presbyterian in Huntsville and was a member of Southwood Presbyterian Church. She was one of the owners of Luna Tech Inc. in Owens Cross Roads, Luna Tech Pyrotechnik GmbH in Germany and MST LLC.
Survivors include a daughter, Amanda M. McLean of Huntsville; a son, Quincy W. McLean and wife, Kim, of Pelham, Ala.; a sister, Leila Werlein Stone of Vicksburg; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; one great-great-niece; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete McLean.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Twickenham Funeral Home South Chapel with visitation following the service until 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Ralph Keel will be officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham.
