Campaign-finance reports for October show that nearly one-third of the incumbent’s campaign contributions came during that month.
Assistant District Attorney John Bullard is challenging Judge Frank Vollor of the state’s 9th Circuit Court District.
The general election is Tuesday.
Reports that were due Tuesday with the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office show Vollor’s campaign received $11,122 of its $32,778 in contributions during the month.
The report shows Vollor’s campaign received eight new contributions of more than $200. Contributors of $200 or less are not identified.
Bullard’s report shows his campaign received $850 of its $20,387 during the month. Bullard’s report shows one contributor of more than $200 during the month, Assistant District Attorney Arch Bullard of Corinth, who contributed $500.
New contributors of $500 or more to Vollor’s campaign are $1,000 from attorney E. Scott Verhine of Vicksburg; $600 each from Vicksburg residents Barbara Wright, Thomas Chady and Mike Cappaert; and $500 each from RiverHills Bank and Robb Law Offices PLLC of Vicksburg.
The reports due Tuesday, called “pre-election” reports, were the fifth required by state law during this year’s election season.
The other reports were “periodic” reports due the 10th of the months of May, June, July and October. The reporting period during which Bullard’s campaign has reported receiving its largest total is that for Jan. 1 through April 30, during which it reported receiving $9,963.
Cumulative totals reported in the reports due Tuesday show Bullard’s campaign having spent $19,270 and Vollor’s $23,424.
The 9th Circuit Court District encompasses Warren, Sharkey and Issaquena Counties and has two judgeships. The judgeship the two candidates are seeking is elected from Subdistrict 2, which includes only all or part of 15 Warren County precincts.
The election for one other judgeship for a jurisdiction comprised of or including Warren County is being contested this year. Judge Vicki Roach Barnes, the Vicksburg-based judge of the state’s 9th Chancery Court District, is being challenged by Vicksburg attorney Ceola James.
Barnes’ report shows her campaign received $9,950 of its $10,050 during the period, with a $750 contribution coming from Greenville attorneys Gaines S. Dyer, John H. Daniels and Rabun Jones; $600 coming from Lake Charles, La., contractor Anthony Williams; and $500 each coming from the Magnolia Bar Association and attorney Charles V. McTeer of Vicksburg.
No pre-election report was available for James. Her campaign’s October reports show a cumulative contribution total of $1,790.
