About 60 people cast absentee votes at the Warren County Courthouse Saturday before the noon deadline for Tuesday’s elections.
Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelley Ashley-Palmertree said absentee ballots began trickling in about three weeks ago and continued steadily.
Of the 35,266 registered voters on Warren County’s roll, 431 people had voted absentee by noon Saturday.
“We will have more coming in Monday, that’s the deadline for people mailing their ballots in,” said Ashley-Palmertree. “These people are students, military or disabled citizens – students who are close enough to come home will just come to the counter and vote, the others just mail theirs in.”
“All of these people have to meet certain criteria before they’re able to vote absentee,” she continued. “We mail out absentee ballots to all of the people who meet the criteria and to people 65 and older.”
Ashley-Palmertree said this year’s absentee ballot numbers are typical for this type of election. She said higher numbers are expected for next year’s elections for county seats, sheriff and clerks.
