Warren County’s coroner-elect said he expects to be sworn in as early as Friday morning after results of Tuesday’s elections are certified, which officials said could come this afternoon.
Doug Huskey’s election to fill the term of John Thomason, who died in a wreck in July, will bring the only personnel change from Tuesday matchups.
Absentee and affidavit ballots were being counted this morning by the Warren County Election Commission, Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree said.
Huskey received nearly 52 percent of the votes for coroner. He escaped a runoff with Larry Chisley, who received 41 percent. Noland Smith finished third in the race with 7 percent.
Had no candidate received at least one more than half the votes cast a runoff between the top two would have been Nov. 21.
Chisley, who had served as deputy coroner since 2000, was named interim coroner. He declined an offer from the Warren County Board of Supervisors to appoint a deputy coroner pending the outcome of the special election.
