Jimmie Lee Mills Biggers.

CORINTH – Jimmie Lee Mills Biggers died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was 88.

Mrs. Biggers owned and operated Preston-Stanford for 27 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston L. Biggers.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Knight and Jenny Biggers of Corinth, and Peggy Thomas of Vicksburg; a sister, Nan Craig of Jackson, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Henry Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 this afternoon at McPeters Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Corinth or to the charity of choice.

Louis Choat.

ST. JOSEPH – Services for Louis Choat will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Flurry officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery near Newellton.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 this afternoon at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday and from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the the church Monday.

Mr. Choat died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at his home in Alexandria. He was 84.

He was a resident of St. Joseph, a farmer, a salesman and served on the Police Jury in West Carroll and Tensas parishes. He was a member of St. Joseph Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Mr. Choat was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Melvina Choat; one brother, T.J. Choat; and three sisters, Allie V. Leeper, Bernice Kimball and Adele Ainsworth.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Choat of St. Joseph; four daughters, Sandra Lee of St. Joseph, Gala Walters of Tallulah, Marcia Lefteroff of Hermanville and Angela Barfield of Dry Prong; one son, Carlton Wayne Choat of Farmerville; one brother, J.C. Choat of Farmerville; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeff Lee, David Lee, Kellon Lee, Kevin Lefteroff, Donny Moon, Zach Choat and Dane Choat.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School class of St. Joseph Baptist Church.

Steve M. Mabry Sr.

Steve M. Mabry Sr. died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 85.

A native of Yokena, Mr. Mabry had lived in Baton Rouge for some 30 years before returning to Vicksburg.

He was a production supervisor for Arigo Chemical Company for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Mabry was preceded in death by his parents, Steven D. and Beulah Child Mabry; a daughter, Catherine Mabry; and a brother, James Simrall; and a half-brother, Elbie Mabry.

Mr. Mabry is survived by his wife, Marie Williamson Mabry; two sons, Steve Mabry Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Vicksburg; and John J. Mabry and his wife, Millie, of Vicksburg; two granddaughters, Jean Marie and Julie Mabry; two step-grandchildren, Mary Grayson Tamburello and Trey Sherman Natalie; and step-great-granchildren Whitney Watson, Jake Tamburello, Olivia Sherman and Grayson Sherman.

Services will be at noon Monday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. John Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Williamson, Josh Williamson, Michael Elrod, Mike Whitehead, Kevin Whitehead and Mike Ables.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Russell Barnes and Dr. David M. Halinski.

Paul Wadi Mitchell.

RIDGELAND – Paul Wadi Mitchell died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at his home in Ridgeland. He was 77.

Mr. Mitchell was born and reared in Vicksburg, but had lived in the Jackson area for the past 30 years.

He graduated from Carr Central High School in 1947 and served in the Navy. He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. He practiced chiropractic medicine in Vicksburg and in Jackson.

In the late 1960s, Mr. Mitchell went to work with his brother at Mitchell Furniture Company on Washington Street. He retired from Physician’s Mutual Insurance in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Mitchell; three brothers, John Mitchell, Ellis &#8220Skitch” Mitchell and Joe Mitchell; two sisters, Ruth Massad and Marie Crow; and a great-grandson, Ethan Kesslinger.

Survivors include his wife, Cora K. Mitchell of Ridgeland; one brother, George Mitchell of Vicksburg; four sons, Mike Mitchell of Slidell, La., Matthew Mitchell of Salem, Va., Russ Blanton of Carthage and Rusty Kesslinger of Raymond; seven daughters, Paula Mitchell and Perri Mitchell, both of Princeton, Texas, Patti Wood of Salina, Kan., Pamala Plummer and Penni Burnett, both of Vicksburg, Carla Martin of Pearl and Jackie Smith of Allen, Texas; 23 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Stephen’s Reformed Episcopal Church, 5049 Lakeland Drive, Flowood.

Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Mildred Franklin Stampley.

LOS ANGELES – Mildred Franklin Stampley died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at her home in Los Angeles. She was 85.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Stampley attended David Hand Elementary, Tougaloo Preparatory High School and Tougaloo College.

She was a teacher at Bowman High School and Cherry Street Elementary School and later served as assistant superintendent of the Clarksdale Public School System.

Mrs. Stampley was a member of the Iota Delta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was a former member of Jackson Street Baptist Church in Vicksburg and Have United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, where she was a member of the Cheribum Choir for 20 years. She was a member of Crenshaw United Methodist Church in Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome W. Stampley; three brothers, William E. Franklin, John Everett Franklin and Claud Louis Franklin.

Survivors include three sisters, Geneva Arterberry of Los Angeles, and Doris Vivian Murrell and Bernice Franklin, both of New Jersey; and a number of other relatives including Armenta Williams of Virginia.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 this afternoon at the funeral home and from 10 until the hour of service Monday.

Freddie Stewart Winters.

Freddie Stewart Winters died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 83.

Mrs. Winters is a former resident of Eagle Lake and is retired from Mississippi Valley Gas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Winters; her parents, Thomas Stewart Sr. and Althea Singleton Stewart; and her brother, W.G. Davis.

Survivors include two sisters, Althea Stewart Baldwin of Vicksburg, and June Clark of Chicago; three brothers, Charles Stewart and W.H. Stewart, both of Vicksburg, and Thomas Stewart Jr. of Los Angeles; and other relatives and friends including members of the Singleton and Stewart families.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
