Jettie B. Adams.
FLINT, Mich. – Jettie B. Adams died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at Avalon Hospice in Flint, Mich. She was 74.
Mrs. Adams was born to the late Dan and Mary Slaughter in Helena, Ark. She retired from Hurley Medical Center. She was a member of International F&AM Masons and Order of The Eastern Stars, Second Marion Anderson No. 65 in District No. 2 and House of Prayer M. B. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew B. Adams.
She is survived by two daughters, Erma Welch of Flint and Tamarla Adams of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, LeRoy Adams of Flushing, Mich.; a sister, Catherine Mitchell of Flint; a brother, Terry Slaughter of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Walter Washington of Natchez, Zelmarine Anderson-Murphy, Iola Epps and the Slaughter family of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at House of Prayer M. B. Church in Flint with the Rev. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. The family will be present from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 today until 8 tonight at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home in Flint.
William Leon Bishop.
William Leon Bishop passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. He was 73.
Mr. Bishop was a native of Meridian and had lived in Vicksburg since 1960. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Working for the Illinois Central and Mid-South railroads for more than 43 years; he was a dedicated engineer. Leon was a member of Bovina Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Bishop; a daughter, Vicki Diane Bishop Magruder; and Juanita Barber Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Cooper Bishop; two daughters, Debbie Jones and her husband, Charlie, Karen Causey and her husband, Ashley, all of Vicksburg; a son-in-law, Bob Magruder of Panama City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Miki Ginn and her husband, Jason, Shannon Barnard and her husband, Chris, all of Vicksburg, Eric Allen of Madison, Matthew Magruder, Micah Magruder and John-Mark Magruder, all of Panama City; and three great-grandchildren, Tristan Lowry, Holden Ginn and Chloe Diane Barnard, all of Vicksburg.
Visitation will be from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home, with a memorial service directly following. Dr. Chip Starnes and the Rev. Bob Magruder will officiate. Private graveside services will precede visitation for family only.
Honorary pallbearers will be former and active employees of Illinois Central Railroad and Mid-South Railroad.
Memorials may be made to Bovina Baptist Church Building Fund.
Andrew Bohannon.
Andrew “Bo” Bohannon died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. He was 79.
Mr. Bohannon was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Essie Bohannon; a son, Clayton Bohannon; four sisters; and six brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Bohannon; two daughters, Gladys Hubbard of Jackson and Mary L. Bohannon of Chicago; four sons, Jerome Carter of Vicksburg, Bernard Bohannon and Donald Bohannon, both of Gary, Ind., and Andrew B. Bohannon of Atlanta; one brother, Charles Sammie Bohannon of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Melphonsia Turner Joshua.
Melphonsia “Dear” Turner Joshua died today, Dec. 11, 2006, at her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Joshua retired as a teacher from Kings Head Start. She was a member of Triumph M.B. Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the senior choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie Kemp Turner; her husband, Spencer Joshua; a sister, Minervia Turner; and three brothers, James H. Turner, Freddie Turner and Wardell S. Turner.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Stampley and Jeffretha Christian, both of Vicksburg; one sister, Mable T. Thomas of Canton, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
