Melvin Burkley.
Melvin Burkley died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 51.
Mr. Burkley is survived by his wife, Barbara Burkley of Vicksburg; two daughters, LaQuitta Cosey Burkley and April Burkley, both of Vicksburg; and a stepdaughter, Fameca Kelly of Vicksburg.

Robert L. Farnham.
FLORENCE – Robert L. “Bob” Farnham, surrounded by family and friends, went to be with his Lord on Christmas Eve at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was 85.
Visitation is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. today at Chancellor Funeral Home, Florence, with funeral services scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services and interment are scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.
A native of Marshall, Texas, Mr. Farnham lived in Florence for the last six years after living most of his life in McComb.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, Mr. Farnham was a successful businessman, building and operating Ole Hickory sausage plant that ran refrigerated delivery trucks statewide from McComb, along with other business ventures. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Florence and lived his life as a testimony of Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Barnett.
Mr. Farnham is survived by his wife of 59 years, Yvonne Farnham of Florence; his sons, David Farnham and wife, Katie, of Brookhaven and Sam Hutson Farnham and wife, Eddie, of Dothan, Ala.; daughter, Bobbie Hart of Florence/Vicksburg and Becky Morgan and husband, Mike, of Florence; brother, Herbert Farnham of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Katherine Lynn Buchanan Friley.
Katherine Lynn Buchanan Friley died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 39.
Mrs. Friley was born in Los Angeles and had been a Vicksburg resident since 1973. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Derrell Friley of Vicksburg; two sons, Christopher Thorpe and Bradley Thorpe, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Nikki Williams of Vicksburg; her parents, Joseph and Laura Thorpe of Vicksburg; two brothers, Tim Thorpe of Vicksburg and John Mulleneaux of Pennsylvania; and one sister, Alice Thorpe of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Lennie Mae Harris.
ROLLING FORK – Lennie Mae Harris died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 88.
Born in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Harris had been a Rolling Fork resident since 1954. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Rolling Fork.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Harris; and a son, Larry Harris.
She is survived by five sons, Melvin Harris of Conway, Ark., R.L. Harris of Dumas, Ark., Milton Harris of Natchez, Carrol Harris of Rolling Fork and Jimmy Harris of Southaven; six daughters, Faye Tenhet of Arkansas City, Ark., Hazel Hawkins of Tupelo, Lovie Nell Carter of Grenada, Linda Crews of Lula, Doris Pierce of Natchez and Betty Beliew of Rolling Fork; one sister, Berthien Gregory of Jasper, Ala.; 42 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Millard Caulder officiating. Burial will follow at Hollandale Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Craig Harris, Curt Harris, Richard Harris, Shawn Harris, Bobby Beliew and John Tenhet.
Norma Ruth Kellum.
JACKSON – Norma Ruth Kellum died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at her home in Jackson. She was 81.
Mrs. Kellum was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and had lived in Jackson for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Betty Allred of Haynesville, La.; her brother, Eugene Allred; and a son, Kerry Kellum.
She is survived by two sons, Eddy Kellum of Jackson and Keith Kellum of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren; and friends, including Bob Clinton of Jackson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Mausoleum at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland.

George Alfred Murphy.
RICHFIELD, Minn. – Services for George Alfred Murphy will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Murphy died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at his home in Richfield, Minn. He was 59.
Mr. Murphy was a retired electrician for Bell’s Music. He was a Vietnam veteran and member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Murphy Sr. and Hazel Sheppard Murphy; and three brothers, Tom Wince Jr., Walter Wince and Tony Wince.
Survivors include his wife, Mary A. Murphy of Vicksburg; two sons, Demond A. Murphy of Ridgeland and Leroy Guise of Vicksburg; three daughters, Donnya M. Reed of Jackson, Dionne R. Murphy of Houston and Catrinia Lee White of Atlanta; three brothers, Wardell Wince of Vicksburg, Lonnie Riley of Minneapolis, Minn., and Henry Otis Murphy of Memphis; two sisters, Mary Frances King of Memphis and Betty Jo Johnson of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.
Fred O’Quin Sr.
PORT GIBSON – Fred O’Quin Sr. died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.
Mr. O’Quin was a member of China Grove M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Essex and Sallie Blackmon O’Quinn; his wife, Willie V. McDaniels O’Quinn; three sisters, Annie Bell O’Quinn Norals, Josie Nance and Alice Moody; two brothers, Willie Blue O’Quinn and Mitch Barnes; two sons, James Charles Norals and Otis O’Quin; and a grandson, Robert Turner Jr.
He is survived by three sons, Fred O’Quin Jr. and Willie R. O’Quin, both of Port Gibson, and Robert Briner of Chicago; six daughters, Shirley McGrady and Berdia O’Quin, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Annie C. King, Ethel Jones, Annie Morgan and Ruby Turner, all of Port Gibson; 30 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at China Grove M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Ray Coleman officiating. Burial will be at McCay Cemetery in Lorman.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. Family hour will be from 6 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Hazel A. Shaw.
YAZOO CITY – Hazel A. Shaw died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Yazoo City Health and Rehab. She was 84.
A native of Mize, Mrs. Shaw lived in Vicksburg most of her life and had been a Yazoo City resident for the past 12 years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Shaw.
Survivors include one son, Richard M. Jordan of Vicksburg; three daughters, Frances Louise Nevels of Natchez, Dianne Ward of Yazoo City and Willa Dean West of Huntsville, Ala.; three brothers, Thomas Hester and Jerry Hester, both of Georgetown, and Preston Hester of Connecticut; two sisters, Betty C. Best of Henderson, Ark., and Dimple Hutchinson of Wiggins; and nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Chancellor May officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 today until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Floyd West Jr., Ricky Jordan, Charlie Ward, Tommy Minton, Travis Ward and Travis Crimm.
Honorary pallbearer will be Carrol Cater.
