Party primaries in both parties will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7. The deadline to register to vote in the primary is July 6.
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
The deadline to vote absentee in the primary is Aug. 4. The deadline to vote absentee in the general election is Nov. 3.
The timing of qualifying for elections this year depends on the candidate, but early or last-minute, it must be done by March 1.
“It used to end in May,” said Rep. George Flaggs, D-Vicksburg, who indicated he will wait a while to make his intentions to sign up for a fourth term.
“There’s no rush right now,” said Flaggs, 53.
On the other hand, there’s “no need for games,” said Mike Chaney, R-Vicksburg, 63, who turned in his paperwork Friday to seek a third full term in the Senate.
Flaggs’ fellow House member from Warren County, Chester Masterson, 73 and a Republican, also has signed up to run.
Voters in Warren County will head to the polls later this year to select a candidates in countywide races and all statewide races, including governor.
Gov. Haley Barbour has indicated he will run for a second term in the statehouse and not run for president, as was once speculated.
Local offices that will be on the ballot include all five Warren County supervisors, district attorney, sheriff, tax assessor, tax collector, county prosecutor, justice court judges and constables.
Among local candidates who have officially qualified are District 3 Supervisor Charls Selmon, County Prosecutor Richard Johnson, Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree, Coroner Doug Huskey and Chancery Clerk Dot McGee.
