A man Vicksburg police say committed the city’s third bank robbery in two weeks remained at large this morning.

Lt. Billy Brown said the robber, described as white, about 5-foot-9 and weighing about 200 pounds, entered the Britton & Koontz Bank on South Frontage Road at 1:51 p.m. Tuesday and passed to a teller a note demanding money.

The robber is believed to be 50 to 55 years old, Brown said. Bank security camera images show the man was wearing jeans, a blue jacket with gold lettering, a red shirt, wire-rimmed glasses and possibly a wig. Brown said he &#8220was possibly” driving a white two-door Suzuki SUV.

Vicksburg detectives searched around businesses near the bank and in woods near the former Sack & Save building for about 15 minutes before circulating photos of the suspect to other officers. Warren County investigators also were looking for the man, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The FBI is also helping Vicksburg, a spokesman said this morning from Jackson.

&#8220The FBI cooperates with state and local law enforcement agencies in the investigation of every bank robbery,” Debra Madden said. &#8220We provide whatever resources are required or requested.”

Bank robbery can be prosecuted as a state or federal crime.

Before two robberies on Jan. 5, there had not been a bank holdup in Vicksburg since March 2004.

The Jan. 5 robberies were both downtown and charged with both was 24-year-old Levi A. Scott III. He was arrested four days after the holdups at his Jackson home, with authorities crediting security camera photos provided to the media.

Scott remains in the Warren County Jail, charged with the armed bank robbery of BancorpSouth on South Street and AmSouth, a block away on Crawford. A total of $2,900 was taken. He has pleaded innocent.
