Virginia Hall Anderson
Services for Virginia Hall Anderson will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary M.B. Church with the Rev. Charles K. Chiplin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 until 8 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Anderson died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at her home. She was 99.
A homemaker, Mrs. Anderson was a member of Calvary M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Anderson; six brothers, Charlie Hall Jr., Percy Hall, Stacy Hall, Henry Hall, Eugene Hall and Alex J. Hall; and two sisters, Stella Hall and Frankie H. Joseph.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Anderson-Bosley of Burke, Va.; three sisters, Christine Jackson and Gloria F. Cooper, both of Vicksburg, and Shirley Hall of Detroit; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Ruby Bryant
CHICAGO – Ruby Bryant died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, in Chicago. She was 70.
Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Bryant was the daughter of Arthur and Reaby Terry. She attended Kings Elementary and was a graduate of Bowman High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in business education from Alcorn A&M College and a master’s degree in education from Chicago State University.
She was a former employee of George Howland Elementary School, West Garfield Upper Grade Center and Burley Elementary School in Chicago. She retired from Chicago Public Schools in 1997.
She was a former member of St. Mark’s Church in Vicksburg where she was in the choir and served as an usher. She was a member of Kedvale New Mount Zion M.B. Church in Chicago, where she was a former church clerk, Sunday school teacher, usher and member of the Welcoming Committee and Women’s Mission.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Terry; and two infant daughters, Ival Denise Bryant and Cathy Santrice Bryant.
Survivors include her husband, Ivory Bryant; two daughters, Gwendolyn Bryant Smith and Patricia Bryant-Allen; one brother, Arthur Terry; one sister, Mary Terry Heard; and other relatives.
Services were Saturday at Kedvale New Mount Zion M.B. Church. Burial followed at Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside, Ill., under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home in Chicago.
Charlie Coleman Sr.
UTICA – Charlie Coleman Sr. died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, in Hinds County. He was 92.
Mr. Coleman was a farmer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Utica. Burial will follow at Seven Star Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 6 tonight at the funeral home.
Annie M. Green
Services for Annie M. Green will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. L.A. Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 6 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Green died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 52.
Mrs. Green had worked as a contract employee for Waterways Experiment Station. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman “Bay” Green; her parents, Elmer Johnson Sr. and Elvia Burnett Johnson; and a brother, Ernest Johnson.
She is survived by two daughters, Alexis Green and Erika Green, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Elmer Johnson Jr. of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
John D. Pate
Services for John D. Pate were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Pate died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at his home. He was 78.
Born in Lexington, Mr. Pate was a resident of Vicksburg. He was retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Pate and Ida Achison.
Bertha Mae Ghiles Scott
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. – Bertha Mae Ghiles Scott, formerly of Cary, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at James Hospital in Olympia Fields, Ill. She was 66.
Mrs. Scott was born in Lorenza, Miss., to Bertha Smith, and was reared in Cary by the late Levi and Pearl Johnson. She attended Henry Weathers High School, Natchez Junior College and Prairie State Junior College in Chicago Heights, Ill.
She was the former Bloom Township Committee Woman and Park Commissioner of Chicago Heights.
She is survived by a son, Sebastian Ghiles of Chicago Heights; nine sisters, including Lue Julia Williams of Cary; five brothers; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary with Pastor Henry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Cary Community Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Mary Dunson Williams
Mary Dunson Williams died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at her home. She was 87.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and member of Mount Zion M.B. Church at Eagle Lake, where she was a soloist and served on the Mother Board. She was a member of Mount Alban Union Society No. 21.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Williams Sr.; her parents, Walker and Zadie Jackson Dunson; a daughter, Rosie Asberry; and three brothers, James Dunson, J.C. Dunson and Nathaniel Dunson.
Survivors include four sons, James Williams and George Williams Jr., both of Oakland, Calif., Mack Williams of Vicksburg and Levi Williams of Eagle Lake; three daughters, Betty Asberry of San Pablo, Calif., Asyline Branch of Vicksburg and Mary Jackson of Eagle Lake; three sisters, Ruby Lacey and Doris Friar, both of Oakland, and Naomi Smith of Vicksburg; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
