Hinds Community College will ring in the start of the junior college baseball season at Bazinsky Field in Vicksburg on Wednesday.

The Eagles were scheduled to play Gulf Coast Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, but rain in the forecast forced the move to Wednesday.

Plenty of familiar faces will be on the field Tuesday as Hinds features five former Warren Central players, six former Clinton High players and one former Vicksburg High standout.

Steven Price will represent the Gators, while Jonathan Ettinger, Parker White, Josh Gordon, Eric Douglas and Nick Carson all played for Warren Central.

The game was moved to Bazinsky Field in order to make sure the game field at Hinds’ Raymond campus was ready for play. Renovations, including new dugouts and extensiv field work, have been ongoing.

In March, Hinds will again come to Vicksburg for a four-day tournament with all games being played at Bazinsky Field.

Ole Miss 4, New Orleans 0

Making his second collegiate start Sunday, former Vicksburg High standout Jordan Henry pasted New Orleans with a 3-for-3 afternoon at the plate in a 4-0 victory on Sunday.

Three Rebel pitchers – Lance Lynn, Craig Rodriguez and Scott Bittle – allowed only five hits on the afternoon and no runs while striking out 10 Privateer batters and walking only two.

Lynn (1-0) picked up the win as he worked five innings, allowing only three hits while walking one and striking out six.

Ryan O’Shea (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up three runs, all earned, on seven hits in his six innings of work. O’Shea walked two and struck out none.

It marked the second straight day that no Ole Miss batters struck out.

Delta State 10, UNA 0

For seven innings Sunday afternoon, Delta State’s Brett Durand (2-0) baffled North Alabama’s hitters for only one hit in the Statesmen’s victory in a run-rule shortened game at Dave &#8220Boo” Ferriss Field. The Statesmen improved to 5-2 on the season with the win and claimed the series 2-1. The Lions fell to 3-4.

Durand, a 6-foot, 2-inch junior from Denham Springs, La., pitched seven innings allowing only one hit while striking out seven. Durand’s only mistake came in the third on a blooper to right by UNA’s Ross Parker.

Oregon St. 6, Georgia 2

Mitch Canham broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run homer in the seventh inning Sunday that carried defending national champion Oregon State to a three-game series sweep of Georgia.

OSU (7-0) starter Daniel Turpen scattered two runs on three hits in six innings to pick up the victory. Georgia (0-3) reliever Trevor Holder took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings.

With the scored tie at 2, Joey Wong started the winning rally with a single and advanced on another hit by John Wallace. After Mike Lissman popped out for the second out, Canham delivered his three-run homer.

Alabama 9, Georgia St. 3

Senior center fielder Emeel Salem hit two home runs in his first two at-bats to lead No. 25 Alabama to victory over Georgia State on Sunday, capping a three-game sweep of the season-opener series.
