Betty Jean Abernathy

FLORA – Services for Betty Jean Abernathy were at 11 this morning at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 until 8 Monday night and from 10 this morning until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Abernathy died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. She was 64.

Born in Hinds County, Mrs. Abernathy was the daughter of the late Howard Henry Goode and Thelma Davis Goode. She was a graduate of Raymond High School. As a receptionist, she worked at Gray Daniels Auto World since 1998. A longtime resident of Flora, she was a member of Franklin Baptist Church where she served as past president of the Flora Jaycees.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Miles Ray Goode.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Charles Abernathy of Flora; a son, Charles E. Abernathy of Raymond; a daughter, Sharon A. Moody and her husband, Bryan K. Moody of Flora; a grandson, Hunter J. Moody of Flora; a sister, Edna Kirby of Raymond; a sister, Shirley Williams of Bolton; a sister, Faye Phillips of Flora; three sisters, Mary Purnell of Clinton, Jolene Holliday of Vicksburg and Joyce French of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Bobbi J. Abernathy of Flora; and nieces and nephews.

Merle Ruth Monk Eagles

PINEVILLE, La. – Services for Merle Ruth Monk Eagles will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville, La., with the Rev. Carlton Vance officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, La.

Pallbearers will be Shane McDaniel, Guy Hedrick, Tommy Beal, Jack Douell, Clayton Eagles and Ben Eagles.

Mrs. Eagles, 86, of Pineville passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Naomi Heights Nursing Home.

She was a member of Kingsville Baptist Church and had lived in Pineville for 23 years.

Mrs. Merle Eagles was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; she loved her church and enjoyed working with and ministering to young adults. Her life was filled with acts of service to others, and she brought joy to those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Eagles; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Eagles; and her parents, George Washington and America Welch Monk.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons, Paul S. Eagles and wife, Kathie, of Vicksburg and Harry C. Eagles and wife, Mary, of Pineville; grandsons, Matthew Eagles and James Eagles of Vicksburg and Clayton Eagles and Benjamin Eagles of Pineville.

Friends may call tonight at Hixson Brothers, Pineville, from 5 until 9 and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time.

Lillian Love Harden Mitchell

ANGUILLA – Lillian Love Harden Mitchell died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Heritage House in Vicksburg. She was 97.

Born in Eldorado, Ark., Mrs. Mitchell had been a resident of Anguilla for 80 years. She retired from Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Will Harden and Luther Mitchell; four sons, Tom Harden, Merl Mitchell, Ben Mitchell and Edgar Harden; and a grandson, Mark Stevens.

She is survived by two sons, Bill Harden of Columbus, Ga. and Neal Mitchell of Joshua, Texas; three daughters, Dot E. Stevens and Ethel H. Stevens, both of Vicksburg, and Carol McRae of Honolulu; a sister, Frances Ford of Vicksburg; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Cemetery in Anguilla with the Rev. Vernon Phillips officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be Scott Lail, Luke Hernandez, Robbie Mitchell, Carl Plunkett and Junior Case.

J.D. Myers

J.D. Myers died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 49.

Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ella Mae Myers; two brothers, Robert James Smith and Joe Lewis Myers; and two sisters, Johnnie Lee Mitchell and Helen Lee Smith.

Survivors include his wife, LaKesha Myers; two daughters, Charity Myers and Hope Myers; a son, J.D. Myers Jr.; two sisters, Ella Mae Scott of Saginaw, Mich., and Ida Mae Myers of Vicksburg; three brothers, Herman Myers and Willie Myers, both of Vicksburg, and Matthew Myers of Mainesville, Texas; and other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
