A Vicksburg man died this morning after a fire started in a bedroom of his brick home on Bottino Drive, off Goodrum Road.

The victim’s name was not released because next of kin had not been notified.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said the man, whom he said was 42 years old, died of smoke inhalation. An autopsy was scheduled this evening at Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson.

Sheriff Martin Pace said the fire appears to have been an accident.

&#8220It’s under investigation, but there are no signs of foul play,” Pace said. &#8220He was found in the rear of the home.”

Sheriff’s investigator Mike Traxler said the fire started in a bedroom, but would not say whether the victim was in that room when the fire began.

The fire &#8220barely heated the ceiling fans, but there’s a lot of smoke damage.”

Two miniature Dachshunds also died in the fire.

Firefighters from Fisher Ferry and LeTourneau volunteer fire departments responded to the smoldering fire about 7:30 and had to force their way into the house, Pace said.

The state fire marshal’s office is also investigating the fire, he said.

Records show the last fatal fire in Warren County was reported at a hunting camp in spring 2006.
