St. Aloysius coach Gene Rogillio couldn’t say much to his Lady Flashes after their unfathomable extra-inning loss to Ridgeland Friday night.

Ridgeland scored 13 runs in its final three at-bats and erased an 8-0 deficit.

&#8220This is my fault,” Rogillio said. &#8220It was poor coaching. They may need to run me off if I can’t do a better job than this.

&#8220We had this team on the ropes. And I was the one who let them off. If I can’t do better, I need to go to the house.”

St. Al (2-4) pitcher Sarah Franco was cruising through five innings. She had allowed Ridgeland (5-3) only two hits while striking out 14 and walking just two. She also had an 8-0 lead as Katie Koestler had driven in three runs off a pair of hits.

Then the wheels literally came off. It started when Rogillio sent Sarah Kerut in to pitch the sixth. The recently named Mississippi All-Star had yet to pitch in her first week back on the team after a long basketball season.

Kerut faced four batters and walked all four. Franco had to be re-inserted to the mound to stop the damage, but two wild pitches allowed Ridgeland to cut the lead in half at 8-4.

Things really got bad in the top of the seventh as Ridgeland scored four more runs off four hits and a walk. The biggest blow came with two out when Crystal Dearman ripped a triple into deep right to score pinch-hitter Kelly Jarvis to make it 8-7. Dearman then tied it by scoring on Christina Ratliff’s hit that just nudged its way into shallow right.

St. Al had a golden chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh after Stephanie Gwin led off with a single and then made her way to third following a sacrifice and a groundout.

After Franco drew a walk, Dearman came back to strike out Sara Howington, leaving Gwin on third base.

In the eighth, Ridgeland took advantage of a spent Franco to score five runs. The Lady Titans took advantage of the free runner, two walks, two passed balls, and one huge infield error that sent two runners in for a 12-8 lead.

Dearman finished with three hits to lead Ridgeland.

St. Al will be back action at 9 a.m. this morning against Vicksburg High in the opening game of the Warren Central Tournament.

Clinton 7, Vicksburg 0

Kara Keith’s three-run home run was the big blow in Clinton’s win at Bazinsky Park.

Lady Arrows pitcher Hannah Reese tossed a one-hitter and struck out five but the Missy Gators (3-3) stayed close until Keith’s blast in the top of the fifth made it 4-0.

Clinton (5-2) added three runs in the seventh, the last two coming on a ground-rule double by Keith.

Kristi Shelby took the loss.
