One would be hard-pressed to find someone who has been to more Warren County high school athletic events than Danny Butler.
Even though he rarely saw any of the on-field action, Butler was the first face fans saw when they arrived and the last when they went home.
Butler, known to most around here simply as “Danny the Security Guard” died on Friday. He was 60.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
“One thing I can say about him is that he was a friend to all,” Vicksburg High baseball coach Jamie Creel said. “It’s absolutely devastating. He was a fixture for the Warren County schools and Baker Security.”
Butler worked the front gates at most local sporting events. His signature white hair matched his pickup and he was always there for a quick laugh or a friendly ribbing.
He worked the Vicksburg High softball game on Monday and was out at Warren Central on Tuesday night to work the Vikings baseball game. He said Tuesday that he was preparing for the all-day softball tournament on Saturday at Warren Central.
Butler moved to Vicksburg in 1986 and has worked for Baker for more than 20 years.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Butler served for eight years, including serving two tours in Vietnam. He was a native of Winters, Texas.
