Brownie Burton McGehee

Brownie Burton McGehee died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.

Born in Kenton, Tenn., she had been a resident of Vicksburg for more than 50 years. Mrs. McGehee was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she was the first university band majorette in the state. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority.

Mrs. McGehee was a partner in The Collection for a number of years. She was active in civic and social organizations, including the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary, and as a chaperone for the Miss Mississippi Pageant. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a former president of the Women of the Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and William Swink Burton.

She is survived by her husband, William F. McGehee of Vicksburg; two sons, Harvey McGehee of Clinton and Robert B. McGehee of Raleigh, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Stacia McGehee, Shannon McGehee, Robert McGehee, Heidi King, Jennifer Barnes, Leigh Moore and Brownie McGehee Spires; six great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Harry Frye of Magnolia.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service.

Memorials may be made to favorite charities.

Pallbearers will be Charles Frye, Robert McGehee, German Jordan, Bufkin Moore, Jim McElwee, Jason Spires, Herb Jones and Gene Allen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Peggy Allen, Jean Blue, Bobbie Derby, Jane Derivaux, Connie Hinman, Mary Ruth Jones, Judy Jordan, Marie May, Bobby Jo McConnell, Clara Parks Pinkston, Camille Thomas, Sally Wailes, Sara Wilkerson, Gerry Easley, Leo Ingram, Joe Gerache, Don Neumann, Dr. Briggs Hopson and Dr. Lee Giffin.
