Two people missing after an apartment fire Friday night have been found, Vicksburg fire officials said this morning.

Deputy Chief Rose Shaifer said the two Confederate Ridge residents were confirmed to be working in Baton Rouge.

It took more than two days for fire officials and apartment managers to locate the tenants after &#8220conflicting information” was received about their whereabouts, Chief Keith Rogers said.

&#8220It was questionable whether one person was missing (Friday) night because the security guard said he saw a pickup truck leaving the scene with three or four individuals,” Rogers said. &#8220The next morning, the battalion chief met with the apartment manager and the manager said he could not make contact with the individuals.”

Nine other tenants escaped the blaze, which gutted one building. One injury was reported, that of Chuck Okere, 52, who jumped from a second-floor window. He was in good condition at River Region Medical Center this morning, a hospital spokesman said.

Janice Sawyer, emergency services director for the local chapter of the American Red Cross, said the agency is providing support for the victims.

&#8220On Saturday morning, we started financial assistance,” she said. &#8220We’re giving them help with prescription medication and replacing clothing, food and blankets.”

None of the victims, Sawyer said, have requested shelter.

&#8220Evidently, they either had family or friends to stay with,” she said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, though one of the residents told fire officials she left home and, later, remembered something was cooking on the stove in her ground-floor apartment. When the resident returned, the building was in flames.

City firefighters were called to the apartment complex at 780 U.S. 61 North about 8:55 p.m. Friday. A half hour later, Culkin volunteer firefighters arrived because some of the apartment buildings are in the county.

Friday’s fire was the fifth residential fire reported in Warren County since March 2.
