Susan Smoots Brown

CHICAGO – Susan Smoots Brown died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Chicago. She was 72.

Mrs. Brown was a former resident of Redwood and had lived in Chicago most of her life.

Survivors include two sons, Robie Brown Jr. and Motty Brown, and two daughters, Valerie Brown and Nancy Brown, all of Chicago, and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robie Brown Sr., her mother, Nancy Smoots and her father, Jim Smoots.

Services will be today at Jones Funeral Home, 3240 W. 79th St., in Chicago 60652. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home.

Joan Catherine Garnett

Joan Catherine Garnett died Wednesday March 21, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 75.

Mrs. Garnett was lifelong resident of Warren County. She was the daughter of the late Spence Hudson and Martha Marshall Groome. She was a secretary at Jett Elementary School for 30 years and a graduate of Vicksburg Catholic School. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was in the choir and participated in seniors activities.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John D. Garnett of Vicksburg; a son, John D. Garnett III of Vicksburg; and two sisters, Marion Haney of Vicksburg and Florence Sanders of Pearl.

Services will be at 2 today at Fisher Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Dural Ragsdale and Jim Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Brian Haney, Hiram Haney, James Harper, Presley Sanders, Buddy Pierce and Dean Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Erb, Bernie Erb, Faye Lancaster, Elizabeth McGuffe, Barbara Chobanian, Jack Chobanian, Dr. Russell Barnes, Jean Hefner, Roy Hefner, Tess Marsalis, Buster Marsalis and Gordon Stevens.

Memorials may be made to Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, 200 Porters Chapel Road.
