Shelley Leyens, the wife of Vicksburg Mayor Laurence Leyens, gave birth to a 7-pound, 19-inch boy Friday morning.
Baby and mother were doing fine, Leyens said later in the day. “Everything’s great,” he said.
Louis, who did not have a middle name yet, was born at 7:30 a.m. at River Region Medical Center and “looks like his mother,” the mayor said.
Leyens has a daughter, Madison, 7, from a previous marriage. His wife has a son, Nicholas, 10, also from a previous marriage.
The couple wed Oct. 17, 2004, at Fort Hill in the Vicksburg National Military Park in a ceremony witnessed by about 70 friends and family members.
Leyens was elected in 2001 and was re-elected in 2005.
