Ruby Cochran Abney
Ruby Cochran Abney died Tuesday April 3, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.
Born in Perry County, Mrs. Abney had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 50 years. A homemaker, she was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by three sons, James Abney, Larry Abney and Sammie Abney; and two daughters, Eula Mae Phelps and Barbara Greenland.
She is survived by three sons, Bobby Lee Abney of Holly Bluff, Tanner A. Abney of Yazoo City and Van T. Abney of Vicksburg; five daughters, Anna Sue Stevens and Martha Joy Stevens, both of Vicksburg, Mary Jane Dodson of Carpenter, Elizabeth Baylot of Houston, Texas, and Carolyn Roberts of Lake City, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Redbone Cemetery with Sylvia Baylot officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Charles C. Frazure
RULEVILLE – Charles C. Frazure died Friday, March 30, 2007, at Ruleville Nursing and Rehab Center. He was 56.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles C. and Fannie Elizabeth Wester and Percy L. and Josephine Frazure.
He is survived by his mother, Effie Sanders Frazure of Vicksburg; his father, Monroe Frazure of Pearl River, La.; two daughters, Tara and Michelle; a brother, Monroe Frazure Jr. (Gail) of Lumberton, Miss.; a sister, Angela Ladner (Ferrlon) of Necaise Crossing, Miss.; two nephews, Jason Frazure of Lumberton and Charles Ryan Ladner of Necaise Crossing; one niece, Heidi Davis of Poplarville, Miss.; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Trinity Baptist Church in Vicksburg with the Rev. Doug Westmoreland conducting the service.
Mary Elizabeth Rist Hearn
Mary Elizabeth Rist Hearn died Monday, April 2, 2007, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 85.
Mrs. Hearn was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She retired from Vicksburg Warren School District as a bus driver after 25 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Ozell Hearn.
She is survived by seven sons, Alfred “Pete” Hearn, Wayne Hearn, James Hearn, Charles Hearn, Calvin Hearn, Vernon Hearn and Gary Hearn, all of Vicksburg; five daughters, Barbara McKay, Rosie Lee Boyle and Gloria Blake, all of Vicksburg, Ruby Chapin of Utica and Donna Whaley of Manhattan, Kan.; 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Talbert officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Hearn, Kelly Chapin, Dale Hearn, Neal Hearn, Clifton McKay Jr., Travis Boyle, Scott Chapin, Patrick Whaley and Ben Chapin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wilford Cockrell, Ordell Douglas, Jackie Hearn, Ray Hearn, Ricky Hearn, Drs. Daniel Edney and Murray Whitaker.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jeffrey Louis Hill
Jeffrey Louis Hill died Friday, March 30, 2007, at Hospice Center in Mount Pleasant, S.C. He was 87.
Mr. Hill was born in Pocahontas, Ark., to Clarence and Hessie Joyner Hill. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps in 1941, serving in England, North Africa, Italy and the United States. He was assigned to the 97th B17 Bomb Group.
He worked for LeTourneau for 16 years and for the Corps of Engineers and Waterways Experiment Station until his retirement. He moved to Summerville, S.C., in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Raines Hill; six brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Vallarie Hill Clausen of Summerville and Joyce Hill Johnson of Clinton; one sister, Pat Angermiller of McKinney, Texas; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Nation officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Caleb Earnest Moore
EDWARDS – Caleb Earnest Moore died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 89.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Clara Moore; a sister, Ellen Wright; three sons, Mason Moore, C.L. Moore and Earnest Moore; and a grandson, Ishmael Singleton.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Moore of Edwards; five sons, Fred Moore of Edwards, Walter Moore of Arkansas, Willie C. Moore and James Moore, both of Jackson, and John Singleton of Vicksburg; and a daughter, Ruth Bershell.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Spring Ridge M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Little Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.
