Ole Miss’ Armintie Price was selected third in the WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky on Wednesday. She is the highest pick ever for a Rebel and the first to be drafted since Saundra Jackson in the third round in 2002.
A 5-foot-9 guard, Price is just the second player in NCAA history to record more than 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 assists and 400 steals, joining Cheryl Miller. As a senior, she was named first-team All-America by ESPN.com.
Price completed a stellar college career this year by leading Ole Miss to its first Elite Eight appearance since 1992.
While waiting for the Draft to begin, Price told ESPN that “it’s like knowing you passed the test, but you’re waiting for the grade.” After her selection by the Sky, she said, “I got an A-plus and a smiley face.”
Ole Miss players Jennifer Gillom and Yolanda Moore, and coach Van Chancellor also played or coached in the WNBA.
