Henry Bland Jr.

Services for Henry Bland Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Alex Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Bland died Monday, May 14, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Bland was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Bland Sr. and Mittie Hensboro; and a sister.

He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann Bland of Rolling Fork; and a caregiver, Classie Stevenson of Vicksburg.

Viola Canda

Viola &#8220Baby Sister” Canda died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.

Ms. Canda was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church on Locust Street, where she was on the Usher Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Canda Sr. and Viola Williams Canda; four brothers, Julius Canda Jr., Arthur Canda, Robert Williams and Samuel Canda; three sisters, Willie Mae Canda, Rosie Lee Banks and Alma McGowan.

She is survived by a son, Charles Canda Sr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Willie Mae Johnson of Vicksburg and Jeanette Canda of Detroit; eight grandchildren; and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

William Earnest Cubit

MAYERSVILLE – William Earnest Cubit died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in Mayersville. He was 52.

Mr. Cubit is survived by two sons, Sedrick Jones of Port Gibson and Alex Jones of Sarasota, Fla.; four daughters, Roshonda Cubit of Mayersville and Latrina Jones, Latora Jones and Christina Early, all of Vicksburg; three brothers, James Cubit Sr. of Cary, Joseph Cubit of Rolling Fork and Albert Cubit of Goose Lake; three sisters, Alberta Cubit of Goose Lake, Evelyn Cubit of Cary and Della Willis; 13 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Luella Rowland of Mayersville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Goose Lake with Pastor Michael Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Alexander Demby Sr.

Services for Alexander Demby Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday at King David No. 1 M.B. Church with the Rev. A.L. Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mr. Demby died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 66.

He was a self-employed plumber and a member of King David No. 1 M.B. Church. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Demby; three brothers, William Demby, Frank Dimbly and Robert Demby Jr.; and his stepfather, Lee Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, Alexander Demby Jr. of Vicksburg and Alan Keith Demby of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Zandra Demby Miller and Pamela Jackson, both of Vicksburg, Jessica Demby of Jackson and Anita Demby-Smith of Austin; his mother, Hulda Demby Johnson of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Paula Marie Ebeling

Paula Marie Ebeling died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident. She was 48.

Mrs. Ebeling was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Ebeling; and her father, E.J. Ogle.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Chris James of Lowell, Mass., and Chad James of Vicksburg; her mother, Frankie Ogle of Vicksburg; two brothers, Louis E. Ogle of Austin, Texas, and James E. Ogle of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Kent Campbell and Chris James officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Vince Welch, Ralph Allison, Burrell Hynum, Charles Ray Johnson, Will Davidson and Paul Kelly.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Johnson and Paul Guin.

Mose Norrise Jr.

EDWARDS – Services for Mose Norrise Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cherry Grove M.B. Church in Edwards with the Rev. Timothy Jackson officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Bovina.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mr. Norrise died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 85.

Mr. Norrise was a resident of Edwards. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Norrise; his parents, Robert Norrise and Roberta Thomas; a son, Charles Christmas; two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Norrise and Bobbie Evans, both of Edwards; two stepdaughters, Victoria Buchanan and Nicole Wesley, both of Atlanta; a son, Walter Thomas of Jackson; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Patricia Kay Pettway

Patricia Kay Pettway died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 61.

A Vicksburg native, Miss Pettway lived in Houston, Texas, for 33 years. She was a senior sales coordinator for Pogo Producing Co. for 28 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman E. and Gladys Rowe Pettway; and an aunt, Mary Lee Shankle.

She is survived by her fiance, Russell Rowland of Vicksburg; and an aunt, Gwen G. Pettway of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Roger Rowland, Donald Rowland, Shane Rowland, Jim Mangum, Ricky Lott, Will Thompson, James Bubba Rowland, Bob Anderton and Gary Anderton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alice Jones, Kathy Camp, Jane Swenson, Dr. Dick Swenson, Ken Good, Frank Davis, T.J. Bustamento, Ursula Roger, Phil Laney, Richard Hollis and Barbara McCaa.

Thelma Jean Price

Services for Thelma Jean Price will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kings Community Empowerment Center with the Rev. J.D. Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Alban Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday at the center from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Price died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 43.

Mrs. Price worked as a short-order cook at DiamondJack’s Casino. She was a member of Mount Alban M.B. Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board.

She is survived by her husband, Calvin Price of Vicksburg; two sons, Henry Lee Jackson and Derrick Jackson, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Jennifer Jackson of Vicksburg; her parents, William Bunch of Michigan and Ola B. Wells of Vicksburg; three brothers, Joseph Wells and Freddie Jackson, both of Vicksburg, and Kenny King of Plano, Texas; her maternal grandmother, Lubertha King of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

George Reynolds III

MAYERSVILLE – George Reynolds III died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 25.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Lawanda Renae Reynolds of Greenville; his father, George Reynolds II of Mayersville; his mother, Annie Reynolds of Mayersville; and one sister, Romona Smith of Jackson.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Rose Hill M.B. Church in Mayersville with Pastor Mildred Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork and Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service.
