Seven targeted in multi-agency drug bust denied bond|[06/09/07]

JACKSON – Seven of the eight Warren County people arrested in a multi-agency drug bust Tuesday were denied bond Friday, while the eighth was granted a continuance.

Friday’s action brought to an end a week filled with police and court activities that Vicksburg Police Chief Tommy Moffett had said put a dent in drug activity in Vicksburg and Warren County.

During the federal detention hearing Friday in Jackson, Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandra Moses and Drug Enforcement Administration officials gave U.S. Magistrate James C. Sumner an overview of the four-year investigation aimed breaking up the drug-trafficking ring Michael Tyler, 34, 1027 Buck St., is accused of leading.

The probe included undercover cocaine deals, intercepted phone calls and surveillance, said Anita Pope of the DEA.

Tyler is charged with engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, which carries a minimum penalty of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.
