UTICA – Charles Earl Lenior Flowers died Thursday, June 14, 2007, in Grenada. He was 52.

Mr. Flowers was a laborer.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Westhaven Funeral Home in Utica with the Rev. John L. Redfield officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Church Cemetery in Utica.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Melba Ford

Melba &#8220Madear” Ford died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.

Mrs. Ford was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church. She retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mattie Straughter; and her sister, Mattie B. Straughter.

Survivors include four daughters, Gloria Goodman, Shirley Wilson, Loretta Young and Lori Black, all of Vicksburg; three sons, David Anderson Jr. and Danny Black, both of Vicksburg, and Larry Black of Jackson; one brother, James Straughter Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Rosie Goodman, Mary Johnson and Annie Straughter, all of Vicksburg; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Willie O. Jackson

Willie O. Jackson died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 87.

Mr. Jackson was an Army veteran and retired mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jackson and Lula Jackson; two brothers, Curtis Jackson and Johnny Dion Jackson; and two sisters, Bessie Wilson and Roxie Spivey.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia L. Jackson of Vicksburg; three daughters, Fran Dufrene (Johnny) of Gautier, Patricia Graham (Bill) of Dudley, N.C., and Judy Brown (Mac) of Vicksburg; and one son, David Roach of Vicksburg.

He is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Boatner Malone and his twin, Avel Boatner. He is survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

MiKevion DraKorean Ousley

ROLLING FORK – MiKevion DraKorean Ousley, infant son of Michael Carter and Lashara Lynn Ousley of Rolling Fork, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at University Medical Center in Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Darren Davis and KeUntey Ousley, both of Rolling Fork; and four sisters, Kimberly Ousley, RedDreeka Ousley, Mykeria Davis and Justice Carter, all of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow at Mount Ollie Cemetery in Egremont.

W.C. Shelby

VALLEY PARK – W.C. Shelby died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at his home in Valley Park. He was 71.

Mr. Shelby had lived in Valley Park for the last 24 years. He was a member of Valley Park Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver and veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Ann Shelby.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Shelby of Valley Park; one daughter, Renea Bell and her husband, Randy, of Vicksburg; one son, Lamar Shelby and his wife, Sheri, of Vicksburg; two brothers, Robert Shelby and Martin Shelby, both of Toomsuba; two sisters, Velma Barrett and Betty Culpepper, both of Toomsuba; and four grandchildren, Jason Bell, Heather Shelby, Jeffrey Bell and Kristi Shelby.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Roger Gilliland, Charles Kerr, Johnny Smith, Jerry McDuff, Bobby Braxton and Ted Porter.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Baptist Children’s Village.

Robert Lee Stewart Jr.

Robert Lee Stewart Jr. died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg. Mr. Stewart was retired from Miller Transport Co. and had worked as a security guard for Vicksburg Hospital. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion and an honorary member of the Culkin Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elise Diane Stewart; and a brother, Charles Kappler.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Mae Stewart of Vicksburg; one son, Robert Lee Stewart III of Vicksburg; three daughters, Barbara Sue Bragdon of Toney, Ala., Carolyn June Wilkerson of Arcadia, La., and Pamela Kay Shows of Vicksburg; one brother, Frank Kappler of Vicksburg; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Marr officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bragdon Jr., Robert Wayne Wilkerson, Eddie Lee Bragdon, Chuck Tate, David &#8220Bo” McLeod and Trey Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Culkin Volunteer Fire Department and Vicksburg Police Department.

Horace Turner

PORT GIBSON – Memorial services for Horace Turner will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Horace McBride officiating. Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Mr. Turner died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was 85.

Mr. Turner was a retired certified nursing assistant from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was non-denominational.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Fannie Turner; four brothers, Charlie Turner Sr., Zack Turner, Evains Turner and Ugena Phelps; and four sisters, Melinda Gibson, Lillie Mae Turnipseed, Julie Windom and Mary Hampton.

Survivors include four sons, Benjamin Earl Turner of Chicago, James Horace Turner of Hudson, Wis., Horace Talton of Memphis, Ariz., and the Rev. Jimmy Ellis of Port Gibson; three daughters, Judy Gannon and Karen Goodpastore, both of North Chicago, and Robin Gissindina of Alabama; five sisters, Johnny Lee McCay of Pattison, Elizia Marbra of Hermanville, Ester Reeder of Port Gibson, and Mary J. Taylor and Inez Washington, both of Chicago; nine grandchildren; nephews and nieces, including his caregiver Mildred Hedrick of Pattison; and other relatives and friends.

Elmira Holloway Wilson

Services for Elmira Holloway &#8220Bea” Wilson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gospel Temple M.B. Church with the Rev. Walter Edley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wilson died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 82.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Jefferson County. A homemaker, she was a member of Gospel Temple M.B. Church, where she served as chairman of the mother board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Armon Wilson Sr.; her parents, Rand Sr. and Emma Holloway; a mother who raised her, Pernella Williams; a son, Fredrick P. Wilson; a brother, Rand Holloway Jr.; three grandchildren, Julius Johnson, Kelsey Wilson and LaVarious Wilson.

Survivors include three sons, Walter Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Armon &#8220Duke” Wilson Jr. and Percy Carl Wilson, both of Vicksburg; three daughters, Dorothy &#8220Dot” Johnson and Diane Wilson, both of Muskegon, Mich., and Zelma A. Wilson of Vicksburg; a brother, Minor Holloway of Cleveland; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and other relatives including the Holloway, Tillman, Gaines, Rankins, Galtney and Banks families of Vicksburg.

Louise N. Wood

Louise N. Wood died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.

Born in Water Valley, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Louis Albert Nichols and Carrie Strickland Nichols and the widow of John Henry Wood.

Mrs. Wood was a member of the Acacia Chapter No. 56, Order of the Eastern Star. For a number of years, she was employed by the Old Court House Museum. Mrs. Wood was a devoted member of the First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Richard Murray Sills and John Franklin Sills; and a brother, Judge James Nichols.

She is survived by, a daughter, Peggy Wood Sills and her husband, Murray L. Sills, of Silver Creek, Miss.; two sons, H. David Wood and his wife, Bonnie, and Dennis Wood and his wife, Karen, all of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Laurie Brown, Lawrence Sills, J. D. Wood, Keli Wood, Jeni Chandler and Mendi Comans; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Louis Nichols of Vicksburg and Robert Nichols of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Hancell Bankester, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be J.D. Wood, Lawrence Sills, Bobby Brown, Justin Chandler, Bobby Comans, Terry Bobo, Larry Nichols, Rodney Nichols and Craig Mayer.

Honorary pallbearers will be her friends of First Christian Church and members of the Acacia Chapter No. 56, Order of the Eastern Star.
