Melba Ford

Services for Melba &#8220Madear” Ford will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ford died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.

Mrs. Ford was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church. She retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mattie Straughter; and her sister, Mattie B. Straughter.

Survivors include four daughters, Gloria Goodman, Shirley Wilson, Loretta Young and Lori Black, all of Vicksburg; three sons, David Anderson Jr. and Danny Black, both of Vicksburg, and Larry Black of Jackson; one brother, James Straughter Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Rosie Goodman, Mary Johnson and Annie Straughter, all of Vicksburg; a granddaughter she reared, Shauntel Black Taylor of Vicksburg; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
