Rowena Holmes Adams
TALLULAH – Rowena Holmes Adams died Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Adams had lived in Tallulah most of her life. She was a member of the former Home Demonstration and Garden Club, Historical Society and Grayson Baptist Church.
She was a Hermoine Museum volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Earl Adams.
She is survived by three sons, Lawson James Adams of Greenwood, Ark., Marlin Holmes Adams of Raymore, Mo., and Glynn Earl Adams of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Linda Sue Doden of DeBeque, Colo.; one sister, Cleora Cassels of Rosefield, La.; and 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Annie R. Hern
Mrs. Annie R. Hern, 81, loving wife, mother and friend, passed from this life on July 5, 2007.
Annie was born and reared in Yazoo County Dec. 2, 1925. She married her husband, Silas T. “Bud” Hern, in August 1945 and traveled the world until his retirement from the Army, settling in Utica with two sons.
Annie made many friends while traveling, and most were lifetime, which was Annie’s way. Family was most important to her – one on whom you could depend; “running buddies” with her siblings.
She was even a mom to some whose own mother had passed. Everyone was welcomed into her home, which was the gathering place for all who knew and loved her.
Annie is survived by her two sons, J.T. Hern and wife, Harriet, of Green Bay, Wis., and Bobby L. Hern and wife, Judy, of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Margie Diffenderfer and Faye Graham of Philadelphia, Miss.; two brothers, Clyde and Carley of Raymond; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Silas T. Hern; and her father and mother, James Monroe and Savada Hancock.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Raymond Cemetery in Raymond.
Bettie Jean Middleton
Bettie Jean Middleton died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at her daughter’s home. She was 72.
A native of Braxton, Mrs. Middleton lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church and retired as a supply clerk from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Edward Brewer Jr. of Callahan, Fla., and Paul Wade Brewer Sr. of Clinton; three daughters, Melanie McNeil and Connie Jean Tait, both of Vicksburg, and Debra Susan Dennis of Brandon; three brothers, William “Sonny” Harper of Ponchatoula, La., James “Bud” Harper of Vicksburg and Cecil W. Harper of Madison; one sister, Cheryl Sue Harper of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the service.
Pallbearers will be Paul W. Brewer Jr., Shon E. Tait, Carter Dickerson, Nat Pitner, Adam McGahey and Trae Wells.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bobbie Dolan, Jessica Janotta, Dr. Paul W. Pierce III and staff, River Region Medical Center fifth-floor staff, and employees of Sta-Home Hospice, Gilbert Home Health and Camellia Home Health.
