Susie Ballard

Services for Susie Ballard will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ballard died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 102.

A retired domestic worker, Mrs. Ballard was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Ballard; her parents, Jack Sanders Parr Jr. and Clara Parr; three brothers, Charlie Parr, Robert Parr and Jack Parr; and four sisters, Clara Parr, Sallie Parr, Katie Parr and Lula Parr.

She is survived by a goddaughter, Ethel Baldwin Dixon of Clinton; and a godson, Robert Baldwin of Vicksburg.

Wayne T. Nowell Sr.

Wayne T. Nowell Sr. died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 64.

Born in Jackson, he was a former resident of Vicksburg and a graduate of Culkin Academy.

Mr. Nowell served in the Navy, retiring with 22 years of service, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as a post commander twice. He retired from the U.S. Army Waterways Experiment Station as an electronic engineer. He was a member of the Warrenton Independent Baptist Church and had a number of years with the Maranatha Baptist Missions in Natchez and the Warrenton Baptist Missions in Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ashley Nowell; his father, H.T. Nowell; and a sister, Dona Nowell Granger.

He is survived by a daughter, Jenise Nowell of New Orleans; two sons, Tom Nowell of Austin, Texas, and Lester Nowell of Bovina; his mother, Eunice W. Nowell of Bolton; a sister, Elaine Nowell of Bolton; two brothers, Ralph Nowell of Natchez and Richard Nowell of Pearl; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Revs. Marvin E. Curtis Jr. and Robert Jenkins officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at Riles Funeral Home.

Bertha Mitchell Olson

MERIDIAN – Bertha Mitchell Olson, 90, died July 11, 2007, at Heartfelt Hospice in Meridian. She was a resident of R.P. White Nursing Home in Meridian.

Mrs. Olson was born in Meridian July 31, 1916, to Arthur and Mae George Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Andrew Olson, Chicago; grandson, Dr. Mark Olson, Waynesboro; brothers, Charles &#8220Cy” Mitchell, Vicksburg, and Ronald E. Mitchell, Meridian; and half-sister, Georgette Stogdill, New Cany, Texas.

She is survived by one son, Dr. Andrew Olson and wife, Regina, Waynesboro; grandsons, Todd Olson and wife, Tammy, and Paul Olson, Waynesboro. She is also survived by great-grandsons, Wade Olson, Matthew Olson, Andrew Olson and Layton Pitts; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held today at Serenity Gardens in Waynesboro with Dr. Andrew Olson, Todd Olson and the Rev. Matthew Olson officiating.

Hazel Barbara Wince

Hazel Barbara &#8220Bobbie” Wince died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 65.

Born in Warren County, Mrs. Wince retired as a respiratory therapist from Vicksburg Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Wince; one brother, James A. Douglas Jr.; one sister, Lucille Douglas Major; her parents, James A. Douglas Sr. and Georgia B. Lumpkin Douglas; and a stepdaughter, Beverly Wince.

Survivors include one son, Cedric Douglas of Vicksburg; two daughters, Dorthea Douglas and Wellma Wince, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Vivian Hoover of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives, including Annie Lee Jones, Vivian Baldwin and members of the Lumpkin, Douglas, Major, Williams, Riley and Murphy families.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
