Nine incumbents, two unopposed on Sharkey, Issaquena ballots|[07/14/07]

Sharkey County Sheriff Lindsey Adams Jr. is among nine incumbents facing opposition this year, with seven of them to be challenged in the Aug. 7 primary.
Adams, who spent part of his first term serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the Mississippi National Guard, is opposed by Cardell Hughes in the Democratic primary. Two independents, Sharion Duckworth and Leroy “Larry” Lindsey, have also filed to run for sheriff and will appear on the general election ballot in November.
Lindsey will also be on general ballots for Post 2 justice court judge, where he is challenging incumbent Clark Secoy.
Three of five positions on the Sharkey County Board of Supervisors will have primary challengers, all Democrats.
District 2 Supervisor Melvin Jones faces two other Democrats, Quinton L. Knight and Leroy Smith Jr., for the party’s nod. Smith is making a second run for the post, having run as an independent four years ago.
The winner will take on independent Paul Tatum in November.
District 4 Supervisor Joe D. King faces King T. Evans, while District 5 Supervisor Willie Smith faces Mose Robinson and Carl Lee Ford Sr. Robinson is making his second try for the office.
District 1 Supervisor Bill Newsom is among four county officials running unopposed. The others are Tax Assessor Tracy H. Brown, Post 2 Constable Charlie Marshall and County Prosecutor Charles Weissinger Jr.
For coroner, incumbent Ola Mae Holmes faces a challenge from Angelia Bush Eason.
Others facing primary challenges are Chancery and Circuit Clerk Murindia Williams and Post 1 Justice Court Judge Treves H. Cooper Sr.
Christie Bobo is running against Williams, while James R. Bobo is facing Cooper.
