Services for Betty Jean Wash Barnes will be at noon Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 50.

Born in Warren County, Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ferry D. Wash; and two brothers, Owen Wash and Anthony Wash.

She is survived by her husband, Willie L. Barnes of Vicksburg; a daughter, Kimberly Buke Jones of Georgia; her mother, Vellie Burks Wash of Vicksburg; four brothers, Terry Wash of Memphis and Joseph Wash, Ferry Wash and Willie Wash, all of Vicksburg; five sisters, Melinda Wash of Newton and Cynthia Wash Donerson, Deloris Wash, Jeanette Wash and Connie Wash, all of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Wash and Barnes families of Vicksburg.

Dorothy L. Brooks

HERMANVILLE – Dorothy L. Brooks died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 65.

Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by a son, Charles Mitchell; and two brothers, Arthur Patterson and T.J. Patterson Jr.

She is survived by a son, Michael Mitchell of Port Gibson; her mother, Lear Brooks of Hermanville; her father, T.J. Patterson of Jackson; two brothers, Solomon Brooks of Clarksville, Tenn., and Chris Patterson of Jackson; one granddaughter; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter M.B. Church in Pattison with the Rev. Troy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.

Charles Edward Brown

Charles Edward &#8220Tee-Bass” Brown died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 53.

Beckwith Golden Gate Funeral Home in Tallulah has charge of arrangements.

Rev. Horace S. Irwin Sr.

Services for the Rev. Horace S. Irwin Sr. will be at noon Saturday at King Solomon Baptist Church with the Rev. Reginald Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 5 until 7.

Rev. Irwin died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at his home. He was 92.

Rev. Irwin was retired pastor of Pleasant Hill M.B. Church. He was a member of King Solomon Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Irwin; a daughter, Antoinette Sandra Irwin; his parents, James and Dilla Irwin; six brothers, Julius Irwin, James Irwin, Andrew Irwin, Clarence Irwin, Albert Irwin and George Irwin; and three sisters, Beatrice Fletcher, Dilla Irwin and Atlanta Hicks.

Survivors include his son, Horace S. Irwin Jr. of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Barbara Faye Williams of Norwalk, Conn., and Pat Irwin of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; one godchild; and other relatives and friends.

Arthur Jordan Sr.

Services for Arthur Jordan Sr. will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Triumph M.B. Church with the Rev. Larry Nicks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Jordan died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 83.

A retired heavy-equipment operator, Mr. Jordan was a member of Triumph M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Jordan and Mae Ella Jordan; three brothers, Walter Jordan, Henry Jordan and Robert Jordan; three sisters, V’Essie Jordan, Mary Jones and Walterine Crump.

He is survived by his wife, Doretha Hardy Jordan of Vicksburg; five sons, Arthur Jordan Jr., Robert Jordan, Henry Jordan, James Jordan and Andrew Jordan, all of Vicksburg; six daughters, Walterine Jordan, Mary Jordan, Rosie Jordan, Doretha Jordan-Ross, Annie Jordan Ross and Lisa Gaskin, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Willie Jordan of Vicksburg and Andrew Jordan of Chicago; a sister, Leatha Perk of Orange, Texas; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Fred Douglas Peterson

On July 14, 2007, the Lord called home Fred Douglas &#8220Red” Peterson. He died at River Region Medical Center. He was 81 years old.

He was a longtime member of Jackson Street M.B. Church. He was a member of Seven Star Lodge No. 259 of Utica. He also was a member of Teamsters Union No. 891 of Jackson.

Fred Peterson was born March 30, 1926, in Eagle Lake to Pearline Wheeler, the first child of seven. He joined the Navy in 1943 and served in World War II. He worked for Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) as a truck driver for 35 years until he retired in 1986.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 56 years, Mabel Peterson of Vicksburg; one son, Dennis (Dorothy) Holmes and one daughter, Robbie (Lee) Ware, both of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Barrett (Fatmata) Ware of Washington, D.C., Dennis (Johnnie B) Ware of Dallas, Texas, and Tracy Holmes of Jackson; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Williams of Clearlake, Calif.; three brothers, Mannie Brown of Jackson, Elijah Moore and Charles Moore of San Francisco, Calif., and numerous other relatives and friends, including the Fisher, Holmes, Williams, Lindsey, Otis and Brown families of Vicksburg.

He was predeceased by his mother, Pearline Wheeler; and three sisters, Beulah Moore, Lee Moore and Willie Bell Brandon.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Street M.B. Church with the Rev. John W. Carroll Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

William Shears

ROLLING FORK – William Shears died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Heritage Manor in Rolling Fork. He was 89.

He is survived by two sons, Lester Shears of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael Shears of Cary; six daughters, Barbara Campbell and Willie Mae Campbell, both of St. Louis, Irma Johnson, Mildred Warfield, Easter Shears and Joann Shears, all of Cary; a sister, Annie B. Shell of Anguilla; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Fitler with the Rev. Eugene Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Earl Stamps

NITTA YUMA – Earl Stamps died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his home in Nitta Yuma. He was 46.

He is survived by his parents, W.C. Stamps and Cora Stamps, both of Nitta Yuma; a son, Rickey Vogel of Rolling Fork; a daughter, Shonda Robinson of Egremont; three brothers, Richard Warren of Anguilla, Timmie Stamps of Grenada and Daryl Gales of Chicago; five sisters, Ethel Turner of Arcola, Diane Stamps of Nitta Yuma, Pearl Stamps of Anguilla, Barbara Stamps and Shirley Stamps, both of Rolling Fork; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla with the Rev. Willie Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Nitta Yuma Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Hazel Barbara Wince

Services for Hazel Barbara &#8220Bobbie” Wince will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Silas James officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wince died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 65.

Born in Warren County, Mrs. Wince retired as a respiratory therapist from Vicksburg Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Wince; one brother, James A. Douglas Jr.; one sister, Lucille Douglas Major; her parents, James A. Douglas Sr. and Georgia B. Lumpkin Douglas; and a stepdaughter, Beverly Wince.

Survivors include one son, Cedric Douglas of Vicksburg; two daughters, Dorthea Douglas and Wellma Wince, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Vivian Hoover of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives, including Annie Lee Jones, Vivian Baldwin and members of the Lumpkin, Douglas, Major, Williams, Riley and Murphy families.

Annie Pebble Wylie

PORT GIBSON – Annie Pebble Wylie died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 97.

Mrs. Wylie was born in Carthage, Ark. She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg since 1941, serving as church secretary and youth group leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, DeKalb Wylie; her daughter, Betty Anne Wylie Lum; her daughter-in-law, Lorna Jean Gosc Wylie; and her grandson, John DeKalb Wylie.

She is survived by her son, Walter Eugene Wylie of Vicksburg; her brother, David Crouse of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Tim Erskine and Michael Herrin officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were David Doyle, Marvin Hynum, John Segrest Jr., Randy Hynum, Jimmy Cassell and Edwin Lum.
