Calvin C. Meeks Sr.

DETROIT – Services for Calvin C. &#8220Papa” Meeks Sr. were Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Solomon’s Temple Apostolic Church under the direction of James H Cole Home for Funerals Incorporated in Detroit, Mich.

Mr. Meeks died Saturday, July 28, 2007, in Detroit. He was 82.

Mr. Meeks was born to John Meeks and Pearl Hughes in Vicksburg, where he received his education from Warren County Schools. He retired from Western Union after 40 years of service. He was a member of Solomon’s Temple Apostolic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Owens; a daughter, Rita Meeks; six brothers, Clarence Meeks, Lester Meeks, Edgar Meeks, Robert Meeks, Wilburt Meeks and Melvin Meeks; and three sisters, Annie Meeks Savage, Pearl Meeks Vincent and Catherine Meeks Brown.

He is survived by his children, Calvin Meeks Jr.; Melvin Meeks, Levon Meeks, Kevin Meeks, Tyronza Meeks, Marithia Meeks, Tashima Meeks and Shaquanna Meeks; his companion, Annie Newbitt; a twin sister, Caldonia M. Thomas; a stepdaughter, Demetria Brue; 32 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
