City OKs funds for VTR upgrades|[08/11/07]

Vicksburg officials on Friday followed the action of Warren County supervisors on Thursday, authorizing a a total of $63,653 for improvements to the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport that will cost a total of $1.8 million.

The funds will assist the development of a new landing system for the airport in Mound, eight miles west of Vicksburg, whose general operations are also supported by Vicksburg and Warren County as well as Tallulah and Madison Parish in a four-way ownership deal.

The improvements include a lighted parallel taxiway and components of a landing system to assist aviators during bad weather and fog.

Otherwise, Vicksburg and Warren County will contribute about $25,000 each toward general upkeep at the airport this year, in addition to $43,625 from each to help pay for more hangars and a second jet fuel tank.

The grants will be administered by the Louisiana Department of Transportation.
