Stephan A. Gordin

Stephan A. Gordin died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 48.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Gordin attended Vicksburg High School. He was a towboat captain for Delaware Marine in Port Allen, La. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Frank and Dorothy Gordin; and a brother, John Frank Gordin Jr.

He is survived by a brother, Keith Gordin of Vicksburg; a sister, Janice Gordin of Vicksburg; and one niece, Corey Gordin.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. James VanEtten officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Goodnight, Preston Mosley, Larry Bridges, Cody Bridges, Danny Bell and Glen Bell.

Edna Earle Otis

Edna Earle Otis, 82, died Aug. 27, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She had been a resident of Vicksburg for over 40 years. She retired from McRae’s Department Store after many years of service as a shoe buyer. She was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.W. and Anna Taylor; two sisters; one brother; and husband, Eddie Florell.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Otis; two granddaughters, Shannon Rushing Stevens and husband, Mark, of Vicksburg and Darleah Fine and husband, Gary, of Garland, Texas; two extra-special twin great-grandchildren, Erik and Ella Stevens, of whom she was so proud; niece, Betty Quick and husband, Jack, of Florence; nephew, Walton Goode and wife, Beth, of Tomball, Texas; niece, Rosanne Goode of Clute, Texas; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews; a number of great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and three great-great-great-nieces and -nephews. All of the children were her pride and joy.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Hawkins United Methodist Church with the Revs. Chris Young and Tommy Miller officiating with visitation at Glenwood Funeral Home from 5 until 8 tonight. The body will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Lula Church Family Cemetery in Flora.

Pallbearers will be great- and great-great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Paul W. Pierce III, Dr. Abdul Bahro, Dr. Murray Whitaker and Dr. Michael Davis.

Memorials may be made to Hawkins United Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Community Center.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all her doctors, the staff of ICU and a very special thanks for the special care she received from the nurses of the CVR Unit at River Region Medical Center.

Lethel Thompson

Services for Lethel “LeDale” Thompson were at 10 this morning with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at his home. He was 64.

Mr. Thompson retired from Holiday Inn Hotel. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Artie Thompson; a son, Leon Thompson; and two brothers, James MacNair and Andrew Green.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Thompson of Vicksburg; two sons, Rico Thompson Sr. and Lee Andrew Thompson, both of Vicksburg; his mother, Marie Sartin of Vicksburg; a sister, Lucille Feld of Fayette; and a grandson.
