Samuel Oglesby
UTICA — Samuel “Jim” Oglesby died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 87.
Mr. Oglesby was a native of Birmingham, Ala., and lived a number of years in Houma, La., before moving to Utica in 1969. He returned to Birmingham, where he retired as an oil field consultant. He moved back to Utica, where he had lived for the past several years.
He attended the University of Alabama, where he played baseball and football. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Carol Rose Oglesby; two sisters, Sarah Watts and Henry Mosely; and a brother, Milton Oglesby.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Oglesby of Birmingham; one daughter, Nancy Adams of Jackson; one son, Sam Oglesby of Utica; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica with the Rev. Doug Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Carpenter Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
Miriam Lee Scott
Services for Miriam Lee Scott will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Glenwood Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Scott died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 92.
A retired nurse’s aide, Mrs. Scott was a Jefferson County native and a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Scott; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Scott Allen of Alpharetta, Ga.; a son, Kenneth L. Scott of Vicksburg; one sister, Grace Ezelle of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
