Faye Hendrix Brumitt
Faye Hendrix Brumitt died today, Sept. 20, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Brumitt was born in Yalobusha County and lived in Calhoun City. She moved to Vicksburg in 1939 to attend Kuhn Memorial Hospital Nursing School. She worked as a nurse for 25 years. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Brumitt Sr.; her son, Elmer Clinton Brumitt; and a grandson, Jeffrey Donald Jones.
She is survived by her son, Ralph Woody Brumitt Jr.; two daughters, Rebecca B. McKinney and Ellen B. Jones, all of Vicksburg; her brother, Charles Pinkney Hendrix of Big Creek; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating.
Visitation will be from noon Friday until the hour of service at Glenwood Funeral Home.
Oliver H. Crayton
Oliver H. Crayton died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 71.
Mr. Crayton was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearline Crayton; his parents, Roosevelt Crayton Sr. and Dora Crayton; and two brothers, Willie Crayton and Roosevelt Crayton Jr.
He is survived by four sons, Oliver Crayton Jr., Larry Crayton, Glen Crayton and Anthony Crayton, all of Chicago; a daughter, Sharon Lanice Crayton of Chicago; three brothers, A.C. Crayton, Lawrence Crayton and Calvin Crayton, all of Chicago; three sisters, Irene Crayton of New York, Denise Crayton and Vera Crayton, both of Chicago; and other relatives, including LeDora Crayton, Gwen Crayton, Denise Crayton, Dennis Crayton, Richard Crayton, Annette Crayton, Laverne Crayton, Sandy Crayton and Willie Crayton Jr.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
George A. George
George A. George died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 79.
A Vicksburg native, he was the son of the late Abraham and Ida Moses George. He had made his home in Jackson for the last 20 years, owning and operating a hardware store until he retired in 2005.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and retained the rank of lieutenant. He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church.
He is survived by a sister, Georgia Mae Gandre of Gonzales, Texas; a brother, Phillip George of Memphis; niece, Georgeanne Hosemann of Birmingham, Ala.; and nephews, George Phillip Gandre of California and Guy Gandre of Buda, Texas.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Very Rev. John Morris officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2709 Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.
Lenatta Hazzlerigg
Lenatta “Missy” Hazzlerigg died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, in Osage Beach, Mo. She was 81.
A native of Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Victor J. and Lenatta Johnson O’Connor. She was a 1944 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar Society and the Ladies Sodality. She was a charter member of the Vicksburg Jaycettes and a member of the Mercy Auxiliary for many years.
Mrs. Hazzlerigg retired from the I.C. Gulf Railroad with some 40 years of service.
She is survived by three daughters, Maureen Kahn and husband, John, of Maple Grove, Minn., Marla McDonald and husband, Mark, of Lake Ozark, Mo., and Marleen Wood and husband, Dewayne, of Eldon, Mo.; a brother, Victor O’Connor Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Raymond; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Mark McDonald, Dewayne Wood, Justin Beard, Brandon Beard and John Kahn.
Honorary pallbearer will be Victor O’Connor.

Melvina R. Hunter
ANGUILLA — Melvina R. Hunter died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 87.
Born in Laurel, Mrs. Hunter had been a resident of Anguilla since 1943. She was a retired school teacher, having been employed with the Anguilla schools and Sharkey-Issaquena Academy. She was a member of the Anguilla United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel A. Hunter; and a son, Joel Ainsworth Hunter.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Hunter of Thurmont, Md.; one daughter, Sally Blackley of Rolling Fork; a brother, J.M. Ainsworth of Grenada; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Anguilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lannis May officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Pallbearers will be Andy Anderson, Henry Goodman, Russell Stewart, Tommy Ewing, Donald Durst, Joe Ford, Raymond Stokes and Bubba Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Dan Jackson, Trevis Cooper Sr., Merlin Richardson, A.B. Brown, Mary Flynn, Alice Summer, Lanetia Richardson, Margaret Brown and Myrtis Greer.
Kamiya Alexandrea Hyland
Kamiya Alexandrea Hyland, infant daughter of Henry Hyland Jr. and Marquida Cook, died Wednesday at River Region Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Montgomery and Cynthia Cook, and her paternal grandparents, Henry Hyland Sr. and Diane Harris, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Larry Jones
ROLLING FORK — Larry “L.C.” Jones died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 60.
Mr. Jones was a resident of Rolling Fork.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie Lee Jones of Rolling Fork; his mother, Leanna Merrill of Mayersville; two sons, Darrell Houzah of Killeen, Texas, and Glen Jones of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Belinda Cooper of Anguilla and Sarah Jennings of Mayersville; two brothers, H.B. Jones of Desoto, Texas, and Jerome Jones of Mayersville; four sisters, Mary Frances Barnum of Rolling Fork, Gracie Green of Mayersville, Emma T. Hall of Dallas and Deloise Thomas of Chicago; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mount Lula M.B. Church with the Rev. Carlton Earls officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Ollie Cemetery in Egremont under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Addie B. Smith
ANGUILLA — Addie B. Smith died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.
Mrs. Smith was a resident of Anguilla.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Queen Ester Downs.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. C.B. Smith Jr. of Anguilla; six sons, Johnny Smith and Carl Smith, both of Greenville, and Clabe Smith III, Jerry Smith, Charles Smith and Willie Smith, all of Anguilla; seven daughters, Katherine Tankson and Susie Evans, both of Rolling Fork, Mildred Cash of Anguilla, Angela Smith of Houston, Miss., Dorothy Langford of Redlands, Calif., Ruthie Brown of Walnut, Calif., and Josephine Kennedy of Indio, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Cameta with Pastor David Rawls officiating. Burial will follow at Cameta Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Willie Andrew Smith
Willie Andrew Smith died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 57.
Mr. Smith was born in the Champaign/Urbana, Ill., area. He attended Rosa A. Temple High School. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Jessie Smith; one brother, Walter Smith; and one sister, Evelyn Goff.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Smith of Atlanta; a brother, Charles Caston of Champaign/Urbana; three sisters, Charla Green of Memphis, Stella Harvey of Champaign/Urbana and Jessi Green of Houston, Texas; his companion, Wanda Clark of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Manetta Walker of Edwards.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Betty Watts
CONYERS, Ga. — Betty Watts, age 81, formerly of Vicksburg, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, in Conyers, Ga. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Holy Cross Anglican Church, 3836 Oak Grove Road, Loganville, GA 30052, with Dr. Foley Beach officiating. Inurnment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at Green Acres Memorial Park in Vicksburg.
Betty was a member of St. Simon’s Episcopal Church in Conyers and a past member of The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, in Vicksburg. She retired from Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Leon Watts Sr., and her parents, Ernest Melvin and Lola McCain.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Mary Thomas Watts of Wilmington, Ohio, and Lin and Mellie Watts of Conyers; grandchildren, Ann Charles Watts of Dayton, Ohio, and Ben and Sam Watts of Conyers; brother, Buddy McCain of Pinehurst, N.C.; aunt, Annie Whinery of Seminole, Okla.
The family will receive friends at their home from 6 until 8 tonight.
