Rev. Louvert Benard Curry
The Rev. Louvert Benard “L.B.” Curry died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 107.
Curry was a member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Rosie Lee Curry of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Grace Johnson of Vicksburg and Benjamin Robinson of Port Gibson.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Roy Leon Davis
Roy Leon Davis died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Promise Hospital. He was 72.
A native of Arkansas, Mr. Davis had lived in Vicksburg for the past 30 years. He had worked as a brick mason and owned and operated a lawn care service for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Mary Buell Davis; two sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by three sons, Rick Davis of Birmingham, Ala., Tom Davis of Delta, La., and John Davis of Warrior, Ala.; two brothers, Bill Davis of Valrico, Fla., and Glen Davis of Oran, Mo; four sisters, Peggy Lape of Chaffee, Mo., Lavern Warren of Kansas City, Kan., Jane Swain of Chaffee and Janice Trankler of Oran; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be in Oran under the direction of Amick-Brunett Funeral Chapel, 114 Mountain St.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Fisher Funeral Home.
Willie Goodman
Willie Goodman died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77.
Mr. Goodman had served in the U.S. Army. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena Goodman and John Grant; and his stepfather, Jessie Goodman.
He is survived by his aunt, Ruby Washington of Vicksburg; an uncle, Roosevelt Goodman of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends, including Jessie Mae Goodman Patterson and members of the Daniels, Scott, Lanigan, Lockridge, Myles, Goodman and Washington families of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Debby Blossom officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 tonight at the funeral home.
Joe Nathan Howard Sr.
Joe Nathan Howard Sr. died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 54.
Mr. Howard was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Rachel Whitfield Carter and Willie Carter Sr.; his father, Daniel “Bob” Clark; a brother, Ronnie Houston; and his maternal grandparents, Henry and Ella Whitfield.
Survivors include his wife, Louise James Howard; two sons, Joe Nathan Howard Jr. of Detroit and Mark Elliott Howard of Southfield, Mich.; one daughter, Stacy Dionne Howard of Vicksburg; five brothers, Robel Howard and Shelby Howard, both of New Orleans, Claude Whitfield of Baton Rouge, Willie Carter Jr. of Southfield and Floyd Howard of Detroit; two sisters, Ethel Carter Carson and Willie Jean Jenkins, both of Vicksburg; three stepsisters; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

James Junior Rawls
MUSKEGON, Mich. — Services for James Junior “Lil Bill” Rawls will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at Rohelia Cemetery in Utica.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Vicksburg.
Mr. Rawls died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon. He was 48.
Born in Utica, he was the son of G.D. and Savannah Rawls. He had worked as a machine operator for Jost International in Grand Haven, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Ethel Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Lori Shepherd-Rawls of Muskegon; two sons, Keith Rawls of Kosciusko and Keith Wilson of Vicksburg; five stepchildren, Diego Shepherd, Kasey Shepherd, Taneshia Shepherd, Delreco Shepherd and Carlos Hall, all of Muskegon; eight sisters, Eddie Mae Marbra, Adlene Durham, Lucille Rawls and Pearlie Washington, all of Utica, Dorothy Clark of Vicksburg, Sweetie Mae Roper of Edwards, Bertha Leavy of Sallis and Willie Mae Rawls; 14 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Betty Thomas Reeves
TACOMA, Wash. — Betty Thomas Reeves died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. She was 62.
Mrs. Reeves was born in Rolling Fork to the late Josephine and Littleton Thomas Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Clifton Reeves of Tacoma; two daughters, Jennifer R. Nick of Oakland, Calif., and Crystal Fultz of Hampton, Va.; two stepchildren, Michelle Reeves and Clifton Reeves Jr.; five brothers, Alfred Lumpkin and Littleton Thomas, both of Chicago, Samuel Giles of Kansas City, Kan., Spencer Thomas of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Robert Thomas of Beaumont, Texas; eight sisters, Venary Nick of Lansing, Mich., Virginia Turner of Chicago, Linda Barfield of Kansas City, Erma Moore of Rolling Fork, Beatrice Jernigan of Hollandale, JoAnn Pope of Cleveland, Lillie Carr of Sallis and Katherine Caldwell of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. O.C. Peace Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery in Rolling Fork under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home in Greenville.
Bobby Joe Young
Bobby Joe Young died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 67.
A member of the National Guard for 14 years, Mr. Young had worked as a truck driver for Baker Security, Ergon Trucking, Southland Oil and Wayne Poultry. He was a member of Houston Road Baptist Church in Laurel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bessie Archey Young.
He is survived by his son, Michael Young of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sarah M. Young Lee of Vicksburg; two brothers, Haskell Young and Glenn Young, both of Louin; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 today at Sharon Cemetery in Jones County with the Rev. Charles H. Jones officiating. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel has charge of arrangements.
