Nellie Burks

Nellie Burks died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.

Mrs. Burks was a member of Belmont Church in Cary, where she served on the mother’s board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Burks; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Loving; three sons, Oscar Burks, Abe Burks and Elmer Burks; two brothers, Walter Loving and Elmer Loving; and three sisters, Ida Johnson, Odessa Miller and Judy Davis.

Survivors include five sons, Robert Burks, L.W. Burks and Willie Burks, all of Vicksburg, and Walter Burks and Clifton Burks, both of Chicago; four daughters, Mary Blue of Vicksburg, Nettie Parkman of Monticello, Rosie Burks of Chicago and Mary Norfort of Marcus, Ill.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends, including her caregiver, Louise Brooks of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Mary Wright Lloyd Jimerson

ARLINGTON, Texas — Mary Wright Lloyd Jimerson died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at her home in Arlington, Texas. She was 64.

Mrs. Jimerson was born and reared in Vicksburg. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her father, Garfield Wright.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Jimerson of Arlington; one daughter, Bonita Hodges of Arlington; her mother, Frances Wright of Vicksburg; four sisters, Delores Hicks of Aurora, Ill., Patricia McDougal of Landover, Md., Margaret Singleton of Oak Park, Ill., and Betty Carter of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Garfield Wright Jr. of Vicksburg and James Wright of Dallas; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church of Arlington. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Friday at Paradise Funeral Home in Dallas, followed by a wake service at the church from 7 until 9 p.m.

Alura Britt Stewart

Alura Britt Stewart died Sept. 30, 2007, at her home on Warriors Trail in Vicksburg. She was 52.

Alura was born and reared in Macon, Mo., and moved to Vicksburg in 1980 where she was the general manager of the Park Inn. She later was hired as a slot supervisor and opened the Harrah’s Casino Vicksburg in 1993. She most recently worked as a surveillance observer at Ameristar Casino.

Alura was blessed with the gift of making people see the good side of any bad situation. Her loving personality and calm demeanor blended, making her easy to talk to, producing a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend and co-worker. Her keen sense of business skills was exhibited in her dedication to her work, but her true love was with her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Skinner Jennings; her father, J.M. Jennings; and her sister, Fonda Bezzard of Missouri.

She is survived by her two children, Kody Britt and Kaygan Britt of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Kody Britt Jr., Kaleb Britt, Kaden Britt, Chelsea McDonald and Chase McDonald, all of Vicksburg; and others, including Chris Bezzard.
