Nellie Burks
Services for Nellie Burks will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grove Street M.B. Church with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service Chapel.
Mrs. Burks died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 93.
Mrs. Burks was a member of Belmont Church in Cary, where she served on the mother board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Burks; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Loving; three sons, Oscar Burks, Abe Burks and Elmer Burks; two brothers, Walter Loving and Elmer Loving; and three sisters, Ida Johnson, Odessa Miller and Judy Davis.
Survivors include five sons, Robert Burks, W.L. Burks and Willie Burks, all of Vicksburg, and Walter Burks and Clifton Burks, both of Chicago; four daughters, Mary Blue of Vicksburg, Nettie Parkman of Monticello, Rosie Burks of Chicago and Mary Norfort of Marcus, Ill.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends, including her caregiver, Louise Brooks of Vicksburg.
Duncan Bryant Jr.
Duncan Bryant Jr. died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 71.
Born in Jefferson County, Mr. Bryant had been a Vicksburg resident since 1967. He owned and operated Bryant Construction Co. He was a Mason and member of the Bethesda Baptist Church in Fayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan Bryant Sr. and Bessie W. Bryant.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Cain Bryant of Vicksburg; two sons, Gene Bryant and Ricky Bryant, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Ralph Williamson of Drew; two sisters, Elise Sanders of Harriston and Louise Frazier of Vidalia, La.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Friday until the service.
Pallbearers will be Richard Bryant Jr., Michael Coomes, Corey Bryant, Dustin Bagwell, Joseph Tarver, Doug Jeter, Bobby Dalton and Edward Thigpen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rummey Bryant and employees of Bryant Construction Co.
Mary Wright Lloyd Jimerson
ARLINGTON, Texas — Services for Mary Wright Lloyd Jimerson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Friday at Paradise Funeral Home in Dallas, followed by a wake service at the church from 7 until 9 p.m.
Mrs. Jimerson died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at her home in Arlington, Texas. She was 94.
She was born and reared in Vicksburg. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her father, Garfield Wright; and two brothers, Arthur Wright and Stanley Wright.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Jimerson of Arlington; one daughter, Bonita Hodges of Arlington; her mother, Frances Wright of Vicksburg; four sisters, Delores Hicks of Aurora, Ill., Patricia McDougal of Landover, Md., Margaret Singleton of Oak Park, Ill., and Betty Carter of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Garfield Wright Jr. of Vicksburg and James Wright of Dallas; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
John H. Reed
EDWARDS — Services for John H. Reed will be at noon Saturday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffrey O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Reed died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rolling Fork. He was 76.
Mr. Reed was a member of United M.B. Church in Edwards. He retired from Cooper Lighting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eddie Bell Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Reed of Edwards; three sons, Phillip Reed of Los Angeles and Harry Martin and Larry Martin, both of New Orleans; one brother, James Reed Jr. of Jackson; two sisters, Ruby Mae Jennings of Greenville and Mary Polk of Chicago; three grandchildren, including his caregiver Antonia Flaggs Jones of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including members of the Allen family of Vicksburg and Edwards.
Myrtle Barfield Smith
Services for Myrtle Barfield Smith will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007. She was 97.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. “Teber” Smith; a son, Edward A. Smith; two daughters, Rita S. Ervin and Annette S. Laird; and a sister, Thelma B. Frost.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Ira A. Ervin of Vicksburg, David H. Ervin of New Orleans, Debbie L. Lourens of Germantown, Tenn., and Alicia E. Nolan of Charlotte, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren,
Pallbearers will be Ira A. Ervin, David H. Ervin, Tony Lourens, Colin Lourens, Tyler Lourens and Bill Querry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Nolan, Alex Nolan, Michael Nolan and Dr. James E. Wall.

Charles Tucker
Charles Tucker died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at his home. He was 74.
Mr. Tucker was a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church and retired from the City of Vicksburg Water and Gas Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Angie Tucker; two brothers, Eugene Tucker and Otis Tucker; and a son, Johnnie Lee Tucker.
Survivors include his wife, Lessie Clara Tucker of Vicksburg; three sons, Charles Tucker and Archie Williams, both of Midland, Texas, and Michael Tucker of Vicksburg; a stepson, Larry Tribble of Vicksburg; four daughters, Brenda Williams Warren and Debra Sue Williams, both of Midland, and Shelia Tribble and Diane Jenkins Graves, both of Vicksburg; one brother, L.T. Tucker of Vicksburg; four sisters, Willie B. Anderson, Doris Tucker and Louise Tucker-Middlebrooks, all of St. Louis, Mo., and River Lee Perkins of Vicksburg; and aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Marvin Williams
ROLLING FORK — Marvin Williams died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Delta Regional Hospital in Greenville. He was 41.
He is survived by his parents, Sonny Ross of Chicago and Mary Lovette of Rolling Fork; two sons, Marvin Cordell Powell and Ashton Travon Powell, both of Rolling Fork; a daughter, Julia Darlisha Powell of Rolling Fork; a brother, Calvin Lovette III of Memphis; two sisters, Nancy Lovette of Pomona, Calif., and Tanya D. Hardy of Memphis; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Reginald Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cynthia Diana Cemetery in Anguilla. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
