Bernice Houzah Bailey
Bernice Houzah Bailey died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.
A former member of King Solomon M.B. Church, Eagle Lake, Mrs. Bailey was of the Baptist faith. She served as vice president for Mount Alban Union Society No. 21.
She was preceded in deathby her husband. Johnny Bailey Sr.; a son, O.C. Bailey; a daughter, Mary Elizah Foster; her parents, Andrew and Mary Bell Houzah; three brothers, O.C. Wester, James Houzah and Earnest Houzah; a sister, Artimese Mickey; and a grandson, Robert Ross.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Bailey of Eagle Lake and Johnny Bailey Jr. of Vicksburg; eight daughters, Bernice Money of New Albany, N.Y., Gloria Turner of Union City, Calif., Ruby Valentine and Josephine Bailey of Oakland, Calif., Lillie Mae Bailey, Betty Bailey, Velma Bailey, and Shirley Bailey, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Gertrude Fitzgerald of Youngstown, Ohio and Lillie Bell Young of Lawton, Okla.; 32 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and other relatives, including Lottie Bailey, Lethia Bailey, Willie Turner, Billie Jean Bailey, Sally Bailey, Irene Smith and the Miller, Davenport, Gray, Logan, Whitehead, Young and Wilson families of Vicksburg and Greenville.

Clarence W. Carlisle
Clarence W. Carlisle died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007. He was 76 years old.
Mr. Carlisle was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Walnut Grove, Miss., to the late Clarence Carroll Carlisle and Willie Ruth Elmore. After moving to Vicksburg in 1934, he attended Clay Street Grade School and Carr Central High School. He also attended one year at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
Mr. Carlisle enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January 1950. He bravely served his country in the Korean War in the years 1951-1953. He was honorably discharged in December 1953.
After being discharged from the United States Air Force, he moved to Oakland, Calif., where he was in the tire and rubber business. In 1967, Mr. Carlisle began working in the oil field and continued until 1990. He worked primarily in New Mexico, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana, rough-necking on land and off-shore.
He also worked for Illinois Central Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Jane Kelley; a brother; and a sister.
Mr. Carlisle is survived by a sister, two half-brothers, seven children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his faithful wife of 20 years, Violet Marie Carlisle of Vicksburg.
Private services will be held under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mary Wright Lloyd Jimerson
ARLINGTON, Texas — Services for Mary Wright Lloyd Jimerson were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home in Dallas.
Mrs. Jimerson died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at her home in Arlington, Texas. She was 64.
She was born and reared in Vicksburg. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her father, Garfield Wright; and two brothers, Arthur Wright and Stanley Wright.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Jimerson of Arlington; one daughter, Bonita Hodges of Arlington; her mother, Frances Wright of Vicksburg; four sisters, Delores Hicks of Aurora, Ill., Patricia McDougal of Landover, Md., Margaret Singleton of Oak Park, Ill., and Betty Carter of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Garfield Wright Jr. of Vicksburg and James Wright of Dallas; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Imogene Allen Page
EAGLE LAKE — Imogene Allen Page died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 80.
Born in Carthage, Mrs. Page lived in Edwards for a number of years and had been an Eagle Lake resident for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Page; her parents, John Henry Allen and Lula Mae Allen; a brother, William Allen; and two sisters, Helen Allen and Elliott Allen.
She is survived by five sons, Billie Junior Page and Jimmie Wayne Page, both of Edwards, Henry Gene Page and John Paul Page, both of Eagle Lake, and William Harold Page of Mobile, Ala.; four sisters, Mildred Lowpher and Dorothy Moore, both of Florence, Betty Commas of Edenburg and Walderine Ford of Carthage; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be William Harold Page, Billie Junior Page, Henry Gene Page, Jimmie Wayne Page, John Paul Page, Billy Joe Page, William Harold Page Jr. and Jessie Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Evans, John Teague, James Luke, Ricky Evans, Chuck Evans and Shane Mize.
Helen Grace Sanders
Services for Helen Grace Sanders will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of service.
Ms. Sanders died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 67.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was a member of St. Paul M.B Church.
Ms. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Ethel Sanders, and a sister, Ethel Louise Sanders.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond M. Sanders of Clearwater, Fla., and Brian K. Sanders of Vicksburg; a sister, Wilma Sanders Reed of Los Angeles; a stepsister, Julia W. Smith of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Thelma D. Whiten-Bell
Thelma D. Whiten-Bell died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 45.
Mrs. Whiten-Bell was a member of Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church. She was a member of the Lupus Foundation.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lee Thelma Whiten; and two brothers, Rickey Whiten and Levern Whiten.
Survivors include her husband, Mack M. Bell Jr. of Vicksburg; one son, Mack M. Bell III of Vicksburg; her father, Curlie Whiten Sr. of Vicksburg; one brother, Curlie Whiten Jr. of Vicksburg; two sisters, Maurice Whiten of Irving, Texas, and Debra Whiten of Detroit; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
