Robert Arce
Robert “Bondo” Arce died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 59.
Born in Long Beach, Calif., Mr. Arce had lived in Vicksburg for the past several years. He was a carpenter with White Construction Co. He was a veteran of the Army, serving two tours in Vietnam and with the Mack VSAG Unit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Angel and Modesta Arce.
He is survived by families in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Friday from noon until the service.

Eddie Lee Boyd
Services for Eddie Lee Boyd will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter M.B. Church with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 3 until 4 p.m.
Mr. Boyd died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 68.
Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Boyd and Delilah Walker; and a brother, Gene Boyd.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Boyd of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sharon Boyd Neal of Memphis; one brother, Alvin Boyd of South Carolina; one sister, Marquette Boyd of Pelham, Ala.; three grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
James Patrick Brierley
James “Patrick” Brierley died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007. He was 74.
A native of Colorado, Mr. Brierley retired from the Garrett Corporation in Los Angeles in 1985.
Mr. Brierley’s dream was to live in an older home in Vicksburg. The Brierleys moved from Hattiesburg to Vicksburg at the beginning of this year.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Brierley; son, Dennis Brierley of Torrence, Calif.; daughter, Joana Estrada, also of Torrence; granddaughters, Lindsey, Nicole and Isabela; nephews, Michael and Steve; and nieces, Sheila, Maureen, Kate and Nannette.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home.
Hattie Mae Fitzgerald Cole
Hattie Mae Fitzgerald Cole died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.
Mrs. Cole was a member of Calvary M.B. Church, where she was an usher and on the mother’s board. She retired from the Vicksburg Warren Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lockie Fitzgerald; two children, Julius Cole and Mary Cole; two brothers, William Fitzgerald Jr. and Charlie Fitzgerald; and four sisters, Albena Smith, Mattie Roscoe, Amanda Diggs and Laura Saints.
Survivors include four sons, Willie Cole Jr. of Jackson, Michael Cole of Nashville, Tenn., Danny Cole of Vallejo, Calif., and James Cole of Lufkin, Texas; three daughters, Mattie Cole, Albenna Cole Naylor and Bobbie Cole, all of Vicksburg; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary M.B. Church. Burial will follow at St. James Church Cemetery in Fitler.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 6 until 7.
David Clark Conrad
COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Mr. David Clark Conrad, 59, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., as the result of a series of strokes.
A former resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Conrad lived in Livermore, Calif., for 30 years before moving to Columbia, Tenn., in July of 2006. He received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University and a master of science in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
His military service included ROTC at MSU and 1st Lt. U.S. Army Command, Fort Monmouth, N.J.
His outstanding work included: Co-founder of the Livermore Valley Educational Foundation; chairperson of the Livermore Chamber of Commerce Business/Education Committee; co-president of the Granada High School Supporters Club; member of the Fiscal Policy Advisory Committee for the Livermore Valley School District; and member of the Advisory Board for the Extended Opportunities Program at Las Positas College.
Mr. Conrad retired in June 2006 from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as deputy associate director, electronics engineering and former test director at the Nevada Test Site.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Strong Conrad of Columbia; a daughter, Sally J. Conrad of Broomfield, Colo.; a son, Timothy P. Conrad of Livermore; his mother, Jeralean S. Conrad of Tallulah; and brothers, Teddy Joe Conrad of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Lt. Col. Neal Conrad of Albany, Ore.
Mr. Conrad was preceded in death by his father, David Curclin Conrad; and grandson, Parker Neville Conrad.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at the Chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Friday until the hour of the service.
Dr. A. Merril Smoak Jr., Livermore, and the Rev. Pete Tackett, Columbia, Tenn., will be officiating.
A remembrance service will be held Nov. 1 at Trinity Baptist Church in Livermore.
Hazel Marie Hatchett
Services for Hazel Marie Hatchett will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Christian Center with the Rev. James Archer officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hatchett died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at her home. She was 81.
Born in Warren County, Mrs. Hatchett was a homemaker and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church, where she was on the mother board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hatchett Jr.; a son, Harold Hatchett; her parents, Charlie and Aurilla Williams; seven brothers, George Williams, Graham Williams, Amos Williams, Charlie Williams, Hardin Williams, Wallace Williams and John Williams; and six sisters, Mary Williams, Lizzet Walker, Rutha Mae Jefferson, Jimella Allison, Clara Thomas and Ida Bell Stewart.
Survivors include six sons, John Hatchett, Rayfield Hatchett and Albert Hatchett III, all of Vicksburg, Phillip Hatchett and Louis Hatchett, both of Denver, Colo., and Joel M. Hatchett of Fort Worth, Texas; six daughters, Dorothy Rogers, Alfreda Hatchett Scott, Mary Ann Hatchett, Donna Hatchett-Jones and Tammy Hatchett Taylor, all of Vicksburg, and Cherry Hatchett of Denver; and 38 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren.
Joe Lee
Joe Lee died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.
Born in Canton, China, he came to the United States when he was 14. Mr. Lee was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the 1255th Quartermaster Company. For a number of years, he owned and operated a grocery store in Rolling Fork and, in later years, was proprietor of Wings Food Market at 2328 Pearl Street for 33 years before his retirement in 1993.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 59 years, Kwan Lee of Vicksburg; two sons, Edward Wong of Vicksburg and Herbert Wong and his wife, Mary Ann, of Buena Park, Calif.; and three grandsons, Marcus Wong, Jeffrey Wong and Bryant Wong.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Berry, James Farrish, Stacy Sizemore, Wayne Stroupe, Craig Theriot, Jeffrey Wong, Marcus Wong and Michael Yore.

Robert A. Middleton
Robert A. Middleton died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.
Born in Baton Rouge, Mr. Middleton had been a resident of Vicksburg most of his life. He was a graduate of Carr Central High School Class of 1946 and attended Louisiana State University. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps.
Mr. Middleton retired from the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers Construction Branch, with 37 years of service. He was an Eagle Scout recipient, receiving the Silver, Bronze and Gold Palms.
Mr. Middleton, known as “Ole Blue,” was an avid hunter and a member of the Old Whitaker Hunting Club where he served on the board of directors for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Boyce Middleton and Nina Mae Ray Middleton; his wife, Mary Patricia Salmon Middleton; a brother, J. B. Middleton Jr.; and a granddaughter, Paige Douglas Logue.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary M. Ray and her husband, Tommy, Janis M. Patton, Robin M. Douglas and her husband, Robert, and Ann Willette M. Elliott and her husband, Scott, all of Vicksburg; a son, Robert R. “Bobby” Middleton and his wife, Sherry, of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren, Kelly Ray and his wife, Michelle, of Clinton, Nikki D. Mayo and her husband, Craig, and Amber M. Coulon and her husband, Matt, all of Brandon, Shea Douglas and his wife, Shawn, of Hattiesburg, Patti M. Mary Elaine Morrison
ATLANTA — Mary Elaine Morrison, born in 1922 in Glendive, Mont., died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Mary Elaine was a devoted and loving Air Force wife and mother who followed her husband to several overseas assignments and numerous stateside ones. She willingly joined the officers’ wives programs and the base chapel programs. She sang in the choir frequently and supported her children in their activities.
She and her husband retired in Atlanta and, together, opened and operated Morrison Farms, a nursery operation they ran for 36 years.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Dayton Morrison of Atlanta; three children, William Douglas Morrison and Michael Thomas Morrison, both of Atlanta, and Cynthia Morrison Seibels (Robert) of Montgomery, Ala.; three grandchildren, Robert Emmet Seibels IV (Faith) and William Temple Seibels (Virginia), both of Nashville, Tenn., and Ryan Christopher Seibels (Mary Katherine) of Birmingham, Ala.; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Emmet Seibels V and William Temple Seibels Jr.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at the Utica Cemetery in Utica.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Lee and M.C. Pampley of Vicksburg; one brother, Gregory Pampley; and his grandparents, Liza Jones, Rosie Ray and Mattile Lowell.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Fran Pampley of Vicksburg; one daughter, Miranda Kincaid of Louisville; one son, Mack Charles Pampley III of Jackson; a stepmother, Sadie Pampley of Vicksburg; six sisters, Linda Stevens, Michelle Johnson and Patricia Kinnard, all of Vicksburg, Rose Sanders of Jackson, Kimberly Love of Montgomery, Ala. and Peggy Simpson of New York, N.Y.; four grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Hattie Winston-Wheeler of Los Angeles and members of the Hartman, Regan, Powell, Sims and Naylor families.
Sister Mary Aimee Starks R.S.M.
BARLING, Ark. — Sister Mary Aimee Starks R.S.M. died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, in Barling, Ark. She was 71.
Born in Biloxi, she entered the religious life in 1954 and spent 53 years as a Religious Sister of Mercy. Over the years, she was a teacher and principal in Catholic parochial schools throughout the states of Mississippi and Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James P. and Aimee Faurie Starks; and a brother, James P. Starks Jr.
Survivors include four sisters, Aimee S. Blais, Margaret Reinhardt, Sister Mary Fatima Starks R.S.M. and Mary Elizabeth Nappo; four brothers, John Starks, Weldon Starks, Robert Starks and Leonard Starks; a great-aunt, Rita Faurie; and nieces, nephews, friends and former students.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sisters of Mercy plot at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the church Friday from 9 a.m. until the service.

Walter Eugene Thedford
HERMANVILLE — Walter Eugene “Gene” Thedford died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 75.
A lifelong resident of Hermanville, Mr. Thedford was a member and deacon of Port Gibson Baptist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force 1951-1955. He worked for the American Tube Co. for 13 years. He also owned and operated Thedford Texaco for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa Bryant Thedford of Hermanville; three daughters, Eugenia Pell and husband, Jimmy, and Sandra Matthews and husband, Henry, all of Pearl, and Joyce Johnson and husband, Kleb, of Oxford; three sisters, Hilda T. Junkin of Lorman, Joyce L. Craven of Jackson and M.L. Jones and husband, Oscar, of Hattiesburg; two brothers, Donald Ray Thedford and wife, Dianne, of Hazlehurst and Sammy Thedford of Ellisville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Port Gibson Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Rowan officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery.

Mr. Woodland died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 67.
Mr. Woodland was born in Glen Allan and was a member of Travis Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Sherman Woodland, Tyrone Chatman and Danny Woodland Sr.; one daughter, Valerie Jefferson; three sisters, Marie Carter, Malinda Ford and Mary D. Woodland; one brother, Robert Humphrey; his parents, Leon and LeRette Hemingway Woodland; and her maternal grandparents, Lula and Mack Humphrey.
Survivors include his wife, Annie M. Woodland of Vicksburg; three sons, Leon Woodland and Anthony Woodland, both of Vicksburg, and Charlie L.
