George Ellis Abraham
Funeral services for George Ellis Abraham will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Very Rev. John Morris, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today at Riles Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. with Trisagion Prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service.
Mr. Abraham died at his home on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007. He was 90.
Born in Vicksburg on Oct. 25, 1916, he was the son of the late Elias and Helen Abraham. He was a graduate of the Vicksburg public schools.
Mr. Abraham and his wife, the late Mabel E. Abraham, owned and operated the Help Yourself Food Store and Sunflower Food Store in Vicksburg for more than 38 years.
He was a member of civic organizations for a number of years including the Vicksburg Rotary Club. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and the Men of St. George.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a grandson:, George Ronald Abraham II; three sisters: Lillie Abraham, Mary Mack and Minnie Nader; and three brothers: Waddy Abraham, Abe Abraham and Spero Abraham.
He is survived by two daughters, Katherine Abraham and Kristi Collins, both of Germantown, Tenn; two sons, Dr. George E. Abraham II and Dr. Robert M. Abraham, both of Vicksburg; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Abraham, Trey Abraham, Elliott Collins, David Collins, Bob Bosworth, David Lynch, David Evans, Ross Lunz, Scott Burr, Jake Dornbusch, George Jabour, Jr., Jessie Johnson, Richard Thomas and Charlie James.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Koury, Leo Boolos, John Wayne Jabour, Charles Toney, George Tzotzolas, Dr. Thomas Sligh and the Men of St. George.

Gloria Mae Arender
TALLULAH — Gloria Mae Arender died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. She was 79.
Mrs. Arender was born in Tallulah and lived most of here life there. She worked at The Madison Journal and was a retired receptionist with the U.S. Veteran’s Affairs Office in Tallulah. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B. H. and Mae Prewitt, a son, Larry Wilkins and a grand daughter, Jill Whitaker.
She is survived by a son, Stan Wilkins of Plain Dealing, La., two daughters, Cynthia A Machen of Tallulah and Tammi Herring of West Monroe, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jason Whitaker, Cameron Machen, Toby Wilkins, Cory Wilkins, Maurice Machen and John Hopkins. Honorary pallbeares will be Dalton Fortenberry and Craig Herring.
Onie Lee Johns
Onie Lee Johns died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.
Mrs. Johns was a housewife and lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse N. Johns; a daughter, Doris J. Hoxie; and a sister, Gladys Ness.
Survivors are one son-in-law, Albert L. Hoxie Jr. of Vicksburg; three granddaughters and their husbands, Sharon and Scotty Cothran, Sharlene and Mark Jones and Jeanie and Andrew Nicolson, all of Vicksburg; four great-grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Kelly Jones of Tucson, Ariz., Louise Nicolson of the United Kingdom; and Joshua Davidson and Jesse Jones, both of Vicksburg; two great-great-grandchildren, Ashley Cravo and Torin Jones, both of Tucson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with burial at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Monday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
Lee Charles Lumpkin Sr.
Lee Charles Lumpkin Sr. died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 63.
Mr. Lumpkin was a construction worker and truck driver with DMBW Trucking and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Terrell Lumpkin; his mother, Willie Mae Baltimore Lumpkin; and two brothers, Jessie Lumpkin Sr. and Allen Lumpkin.
Survivors include a son, Lee Charles Lumpkin of Vicksburg; a daughter, Wanda Carson of Vicksburg,;a stepdaughter, Tammy Flowers of Minneapolis; three brothers, Aaron Lumpkin and Jerry Lumpkin, both of Vicksburg, and Sylvester Lumpkin of Los Angeles; two sisters, Catherine Gleese and Carolyn Johnson, both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren, neices and nephews.
Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Elijah Singleton
Elijah Singleton died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 88.
Mr. Singleton was a World War II veteran and retired from the Boeing Co. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Plez Singleton; his mother, Eliza Hill Singleton; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Wille Mae Singleton of Vicksburg; a son, Harvey Singleton of Torrance, Calif.; a daughter, Carolyn Singleton of Sacremento, Calif.; and neices, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 6 until 7.
Herbert D. Smith
Services for Herbert D. Smith will be at 1 p.m. today at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. Alfred Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service.
Mr. Smith died Tuesday Oct. 16, 2007, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 73.
Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired welder of PENNCO. He was a member of Zion Traveler’s M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Augusta Ozias and Willie Smith Ozias; a son, Ray Michael Cosby; a brother, Sidney Smith; and maternal grandparents, Nannie Parker and Bunk Parker.
He is survived by his wife, Annie L. Cosby Smith of Vicksburg; six sons, David Cosby, Duncan Smith, Ernest Smith, Herbert Aaron Smith, Brian Smith and the Rev. Troy Truly, all of Vicksburg; five daughters, Vanessa Wright, Carol Howard, Veronica Kilcrease, Erica Smith and Jewel Truly, all of Vicksburg; a brother, James Smith of Chicago; two sisters, Johnnie Mae Ashley of Richmon, Calif., and Willie Mae Smith of Vicksburg; and 39 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
