Shirley Green Lauderdale

Shirley Green Lauderdale died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at her home. She was 90.

Born in Delhi, La., she was the daughter of the late Oscar Lee Green and Margaret Ella Pardue Green. She moved to Monroe, La., as a child and had been a Vicksburg resident most of her life. She owned and operated Shirley’s Beauty Salon before retiring.

Mrs. Lauderdale was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edwin Joseph “Ted” Rogers and J.H. “Bullie” Lauderdale Jr.

She is survived by five nieces, Janice Hammond of Oberlin, La., Betty Moore of Ruston, La., Shirley Langley of Lake Charles, La., Stacie Hart of Farmerville, La., and Ada Lauderdale of Vicksburg; and two nephews, Charles Roberts of Vicksburg and Bill Roberts of Farmerville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 1408 Cherry St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 and Vicksburg Catholic School, 1900 Grove St., Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Tressie Ann Smith

JASPER, Ga. — Tressie Ann Smith, age 74, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. The body remained at Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper, Ga. Local funeral services were Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Self officiating. The remains were transported to Brookhaven, Miss., for a brief visitation from 11 a.m. Friday until a prior committal service in the Paxton Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Darlene Youmans of Texas, Sam Smith of Arizona, Tommy and Julia Smith of Nelson, Victor and Cynthia Smith of California and Hubert and Joyce Smith of Jasper; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dannette and Ron Pettengill, Linda and Greg Brown of Mississippi and Jamie and Ro Morin of Minnesota; three stepsons, Ken Smith and Wendell Smith, both of Chatsworth, and Raymond Smith of Rome; two stepdaughters, Dee Allen of Chatsworth, and Shirl and Art Raymond of Illinois; two brothers, Buddy Powell and James Powell of Mississippi; a sister, Dottie Tomko of Texas; 39 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Living Word Church or Grandview Nursing Home.

Lynn Stevens

Services for Gillis Lynn Stevens, age 63, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence Baylot officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Stevens died of natural causes at his home in Sugarland, Texas, on or about Oct. 15, 2007. He was born March 6, 1944, in Vicksburg. He graduated from Culkin Academy High School in 1962 and attended college at Hinds Junior College in Raymond and Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas, where he majored in engineering.

He began his career with R.G. LeTourneau Company in Vicksburg and transferred to LeTourneau in Longview, Texas, in order to attend Kilgore College part-time while continuing to work for LeTourneau. While employed as a piping designer with Fluor, he worked worldwide with companies such as Bechtel, John Brown, Litwin, Brown and Root and numerous other engineering companies. His area of expertise was in pipe design for chemical plants, oil refineries, offshore drilling rigs and nuclear power plants. He worked on construction of the Alaskan Pipe Line and in Iran and Saudi Arabia and on the nuclear power plant at Grand Gulf, Miss. He attended Woodlawn Baptist Church before moving to Texas.

Mr. Stevens has a drawing of an offshore drilling rig on display in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gillis Lonzo and Mary Lois Stevens.

His survivors include a brother, Lonny Wade Stevens and his wife, Lavada, of Magnolia, Texas; and two sisters, Wanda Loree Stevens and Katherine De-Loris Taylor and her husband, Richard, all of Vicksburg. He is also survived by a niece, Lona Ann Stevens Renfro; four nephews, Michael Taylor, Gary Taylor, Steve Taylor and Russell Stevens; eight great-nephews; three great-nieces; and numerous, much-loved cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Joe Campbell, Charles Henry, Carl Warnock, Carroll Warnock, Donny Harris, Johnny Wilkinson, David Williams and Jimmy Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Culkin Class of 1962.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
