Andrew E. Jackson

ARLINGTON, Texas — Andrew Edmond Jackson, 91, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, in Arlington, Texas. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation was from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Andy was born April 13, 1916, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Carey Hester Burgess and William W. Jackson Sr. He worked for South Central Bell Telephone Company as a supervisor in Nashville until his retirement. While in Nashville, he was an active member of Mc-Kendree United Methodist Church.

Andy was active in many community activities, particularly scouting. He was a Scoutmaster for many years and earned the Wood Badge, the Long Rifle Award and the Order of the Arrow for his dedication. His two sons became Eagle Scouts. He also followed in his father’s footsteps and served as Head Usher at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville for many years.

He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity at Vanderbilt University. One of his fondest memories was escorting Doris Day to their high school Senior Prom. After his retirement, he and his wife, Eula Mayo Jackson, moved to Mansfield, Texas. After the death of his beloved Eula, his wife of 49 years, he moved to Arlington.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Arlington, serving as an usher and greeter for several years, and was active in his Sunday school class. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and outside activities. He always had a positive attitude and a joke to make you laugh.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, William W. Jackson Jr. and Charles R. Jackson; and sister, Nancy Brown.

He is survived by two sons, Andrew Edmond “Ed” Jackson Jr. and wife, Betty, of Vicksburg, and Charles Mayo “Charlie” Jackson and wife, Dar, of Arlington; grandchildren, Christine J. Rials and husband, Christopher, of Seattle, Wash., Chrisma Jackson and Tim Toole of Albuquerque, N.M., Amanda J. Abanilla and husband, Joe, of Euless, Texas, and Charles Jackson Jr. and wife, Aris, of Arlington; his brother, Jesse C. Jackson of Nashville; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Memorials may be made to Camp LIFE, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity that has a mission to provide camping experiences for children who would not have the opportunity to enjoy camp, 12908 Park Drive, Austin, TX 78732; or a charity of choice.

Melvin Sisney Sr.

Melvin Sisney Sr. died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 63.

Mr. Sisney attended Hinds County schools. He was a member of New Poplar Grove Independent Methodist Church in Utica.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Sisney and Amanda Fields Sisney; a sister, Hattie Marie Lewis; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Harriet Fields; and his paternal grandparents, Will and Annie Sisney.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Sisney Jr. and Alvin Lorenzo Sisney, both of California; four sisters, Odia Mae Sisney White of Vicksburg, Ruby Lockhart of Killeen, Texas, and Minnie Lee Brown and Coraless Jones, both of New Orleans; four brothers, John Cessna and Joe Edward “Snoball” Thomas, both of Utica, and James Cessna and Will Andrew Clark, both of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
