Karen L. Harris

PINOLA — Karen L. Harris died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 27.

Miss Harris was a 1998 graduate of Mendenhall High School and 2004 graduate of Alcorn State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in secondary education. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Vicksburg-Warren Chapter, and Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Pinola, where she was the youth coordinator. She was employed with Metro Hyundai in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Lee Harris Sr.; and her grandparents, Eugene and Luetishia Walker.

She is survived by her mother, Maggie Walker Harris; two brothers, Marshall L. Harris Jr. of Vicksburg and Kevin Harris of Pinola; three sisters, Shelia Smith and Shaunta Bright, both of Vicksburg, and Margaret Harris of Chicago; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Jones, Cox, Kennedy and Harris families of Vicksburg and the Walker family of Pinola.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church on Rockport New Hebron Road in New Hebron.

Visitation will be from 1 until 9 p.m. Friday at J&M Funeral Home in Mendenhall.

Flossie Jones

Services for Flossie Jones will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Olive M.B. Church with the Rev. Douglas Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Jones died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 57.

Mrs. Jones had worked at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was a member of Greater Mount Olive No. 2 M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Blake Sr.; and one brother, Chester Blake.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Louise McGloster of Vicksburg; her mother, Louise Giles Blake of Vicksburg; two brothers, Willie Blake Jr. of Moss Point and A.J. Blake of Anniston, Ala; three sisters, Viola Cooper of St. Louis, Mo., and Thelma Jean Sumler and (her twin sister) Dorothy McRunells, both of Vicksburg; and one granddaughter.

John I. Nunnery Jr.

John I. Nunnery Jr. died Oct. 31, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77.

Born in Liberty, Mr. Nunnery had lived at Eagle Lake since retiring in 1991 from his job as an insurance manager.

He served in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Army. He was a member of Eagle Lake Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lurleen Reeves Nunnery; a sister, Mattie Nunnery Hawkins; and a grandson, Andrew Johnson Covington.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Marie Nunnery Covington and husband, Andy Covington, of Madison; two grandchildren, Amanda Kathryn Covington and James Carson Covington, both of Madison; and a sister, Linda Nunnery Wicker and husband, the Rev. Basil Wicker, of Slaughter, La.

Services will be at noon Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Sibley officiating. Burial will follow at Mars Hill Cemetery in the Mars Hill community. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be B.J. Shows, John Knight, Jimmy Polk, Gene Ray, Charles Watson and Jerry Norman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dell Barnett, James Hurst, Ronald Brown, Bob Guthrie, Buddy Wynn, Jimmy Freeman and C.T. Thornton.

Memorials may be made to Eagle Lake Baptist Church.

Ruby Russell

ANGUILLA — Ruby “Mama Ruby” Russell died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Leake Memorial Hospital. She was 101.

Mrs. Russell was a member of Rose Hill M.B. Church in Anguilla, where she was an usher for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Sisters Aid Organization and had worked as a private-duty nurse and Head Start bus monitor.

She is survived by six sons, Alex Russell, Dave Russell and Edward Russell, all of Chicago, Walter Russell and Leroy Russell, both of Anguilla, and Charles Russell of Rolling Fork; three daughters, Ruby Cherry of Chicago, Alma Smith of Houston, Texas, and Betty Williams of Carthage; 45 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including Amelia Ford of Cary.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Rose Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. James Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Melvin Sisney Sr.

Services for Melvin Sisney Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Poplar Grove Independent Methodist Church, Mississippi 27 North in Utica, with the Rev. James O. Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 6 until 7.

Mr. Sisney died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 63.

Mr. Sisney attended Hinds County schools. He was a member of New Poplar Grove Independent Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Sisney and Amanda Fields Sisney; a sister, Hattie Marie Lewis; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Harriet Fields; and his paternal grandparents, Will and Annie Sisney.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Sisney Jr. and Alvin Lorenzo Sisney, both of California; two daughters, Calandra Sisney and Adrian Sisney, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Odia Mae Sisney White of Vicksburg, Ruby Lockhart of Killeen, Texas, and Minnie Lee Brown and Coraless Jones, both of New Orleans; four brothers, John Cessna and Joe Edward “Snoball” Thomas, both of Utica, and James Cessna and Will Andrew Clark, both of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Sherman Ware Jr.

Services for Sherman Ware Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at the church.

Mr. Ware died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 69.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Ware was a retired taxi driver who had worked at Veteran Cab Company. He had also worked with the Kangaroo stores for 10 years. He was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church.

Mr. Ware was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Ware Sr. and Pearlie Ware Hopkins; a son, Rodrick Ware; one brother, Fulton Ware; and two sisters, Dorothy Washington and Mary D. Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Ware of Vicksburg; two sons, Jason Etienne of Gonzales, La., and Erick Ware of Wisconsin; five daughters, Dorothy Ware of Lexington, Texas, Linda Rogers and Shirley Wright, both of Canton, Ohio, Felicia Scott of Magnolia and Dinasty Ware of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Melvin Ware of Vicksburg and George Ware of Oakland, Calif., an adopted brother, Allen Ware of Jackson; five stepbrothers, John Hopkins and James Hopkins, both of Chicago, Jack Hopkins of Sacramento, Calif., Earl Hopkins of Greenville and Walter Hopkins of Detroit; four sisters, Helen Toombes and Alma Phillips, both of Fairburn, Ga., Pearlie Akama of Carson, Calif., and Doretha Sneed of Vicksburg; a stepsister, Bessie Burton of Detroit; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Roosevelt Jackson of Chicago.
