RIDGELAND — A 10-yard touchdown pass in overtime kept Ridgeland’s perfect season intact and sends Vicksburg on the long road to West Point next week in the Class 4A playoffs.

The overtime touchdown pass gave the Titans a thrilling 19-16 win over the Gators before a crowd of nearly 5,000 fans.

The loss drops Vicksburg to 6-4 on the season and finished its Region 3-4A slate at 4-3. Two weeks ago, Vicksburg stood 6-2 and 4-1 in the region. But an 18-13 loss to Canton, coupled with the overtime loss to Ridgeland leaves the team with a fourth place finish and a trip to West Point for the first round of the 4A playoffs. West Point won the 4A title in 2006.

Ridgeland (10-0, 7-0) will host Kosciusko in its playoff opener next week.

VHS assistant coach Jackie Williamson said the Gators had the lead at the half but a late Ridgeland scoring drive tied the game with four minutes left.

“Delmon Robinson had a really nice game for us. He caught two touchdown passes in the first half from Stanton Price from 56 and 26 yards. That gave us a 13-6 lead at the half. It was a really good game. We just came up a little short in overtime,” Williamson said.

Robinson’s two TD catches gave the Gators a 13-6 halftime lead. Vicksburg, however, couldn’t hold the lead late. Ridgeland tied the game at 13-all with four minutes left.

Vicksburg couldn’t answer the score in the remaining time in regulation and the game went into overtime.

The Gators went first in the extra period and had to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Patrick Parker to make it 16-13.

Ridgeland then got the ball and won the game on a 10-yard touchdown pass.

Robinson, a Mississippi State commit, ended the game with 97 yards receiving on five catches. Price was 7-of-17 for 98 yards and two TDs. Les Lemons had the other two catches for one yard.

Ridgeland, sporting one of 4A’s best defenses, held the Gators to just 60 yards rushing. Jeremy Hamlin had 36 yards on 12 carries. Lemons had 20 yards on four carries, while Price carried the ball eight times for five yards.
